My two teenage daughters have spent many volunteer hours over the last 2 years fighting and raising awareness about the problems of sex trafficking in the United States. Now they get to find out tonight when they get home from school that they are not only fight the pimps, but also the federal government that is promoting the industry. And Obama wants volunteerism - why exactly when all the good that is being done is being destroyed by groups like Acorn funded by our very own government. Of course, never mind that NOT ONE AMERICAN was found to have been actually, you know, wiretapped, and never mind that Bush consulted with the justice department - who gave the administration their blessing - and never mind that they employed software specifically written to prevent innocent Americans being listened in on, and never mind that the prevailing technology was such that two foreign nationals could be having a conversation in their respective countries and the signal might pass through the US due to the way the computers route global conversations - and that's who they were primarily going after. Nope. Didn't matter. Toddard wanted Bush's hide. Why? Like all liberals, they'd rather have us slaughtered than be proactive when it comes to our enemies.

Because he's that brand of liberal who makes a fetish of the abstract, who atomizes every Republican action such that he can find one thing he can grab and pull out his finger and gleefully cry, "I GOTCHA!"

It had nothing to do with Toddard's desire to keep this country safe from animals and it had nothign to do with his respect for the rule of law. I can't tell you how long and drawn out his posts were about Bush and the rule of law. Yet this happens with ACORN and all you hear out of Toddard's odious keyboard is how stupid Fox News watchers are for recognizing the enormity of that organization. Not one word about the rule of law from Toddard. Not ONE.

And yet toddard insists he's a conservative and he takes the pose of one who's above it all. Please.

aaaand that's irrelevant. The law is plain: to eavesdrop on the phone calls of American citizens on American soil a FISA warrant must be obtained - period. To do so without a FISA warrant is a felony - period. And as I have had to say countless times here before, please note (before you claim that there might be no time to acquire a FISA warrant): a suspected terrorist may be wiretapped regardless of when and where the call originates, and a warrant applied for AFTER.

And before you start shrieking about what might happen if a FISA warrant were denied remember this: In the period 1979-2006 a total of 22,990 applications for warrants were made to the FISA Court - 22,985 were approved, and only FIVE were rejected.

And before you try to claim FISA was outdated, please note: FISA was amended multiple times since it was first made law. In fact, in 2001 (after 9/11) the GOP congress amended FISA to George Bush's specifications to update it sufficiently. When *George W Bush* signed it into law he - president *George W Bush* - had THIS to say about the new amended FISA law (which he later violated, committing multiple felonies):

"The changes, effective today, will help counter a threat like no other our Nation has ever faced. . . .

We're dealing with terrorists who operate by highly sophisticated methods and technologies, some of which were not even available when our existing laws were written. *The bill before me takes account of the new realities and dangers posed by modern terrorists*. It will help law enforcement to identify, to dismantle, to disrupt, and to punish terrorists before they strike. . . .

Surveillance of communications is another essential tool to pursue and stop terrorists. The existing law was written in the era of rotary telephones. *This new law I sign today will allow surveillance of all communications used by terrorists, including e-mails, the Internet, and cell phones*. As of today, we'll be able to better meet the technological challenges posed by this proliferation of communications technology"

The next day, President Bush said:

"The bill I signed yesterday gives intelligence and law enforcement officials additional tools they need to hunt and capture and punish terrorists. Our enemies operate by highly sophisticated methods and technologies, using the latest means of communication and the new weapon of bioterrorism.

When earlier laws were written, some of these methods did not even exist. *The new law recognizes the realities and dangers posed by the modern terrorist*. It will help us to prosecute terrorist organizations -- and also to detect them before they strike. . . .

So you see, according to George W Bush himself the FISA amendment gave him all the powers he needed, and yet he still conducted surveillance on American citzens on American soil with no warrants - a clear, unambiguous CRIME.

Sorry, but that's the truth. It was an extremely radical program, highly illegal and massive and yet... I suspect no "conservatives" here were "scared" about that.

Wonder why.

I voted for Paul in the last primary and Barr in the general, although I rather detest the man and should have voted for Baldwin or written in Ron Paul. I voted Peroutka/Baldwin in 04 (CP) and Buchanan in 00 and wrote him in in 96.

Now look, this may sound extreme but we need some common sense guidelines to go with our laws.For example,if a group of people witnesses a crime why waste all the time and funds on a trial to determine guilt?In this case there's an undisputed video of sex trade basically financed by acorn.We've all seen it.This isn't acorn's first brush with under the table financing.Damn people! Disband the organization and divert the funding to somewhere it can be of some friggin use.We all know what's been going on over there, so why do we beat around the proverbial bush,tie everything up in red tape,and wait for someone to "grow a set" and do something about it?There are too many laws that protect these "shady"organizations and furthermore too many laws that bottleneck the process of indicting them when they are caught red handed!
