Finally, somebody challenges the arbitrariness of 17% GDP for healthcare costs as too much. The fact is, the leftist ideologues want to put a moratorium on healthcare technology that benefits a few. They despise the idea that the individual should have control of their own healthcare. They want to collectivize healthcare decisions so that they can then design and control the population as a whole and filter out the "drains" on resources--the disabled, the seriously ill and the elderly. Less expensive healthcare means more cheap healthcare for more voters and a society beholden to its government. Those in most need of medical care will have their voices drowned out by the majority healthy willing to risk the availability of healthcare technology in the future for the security of having their low tech healthcare needs met today.
