The Spectacle Blog

Scientific fraud

It seems the UN reads AmSpec blog... and/or the Washington Times, National Review, maybe even ICECAP.US (great global warming site) or the Charlottesville Daily Progress. Or my filings with the EPA?

I say this because it was a month ago today that I began broadcasting in those fora that the UN's IPCC -- the "scientific body" to which Obama's EPA outsourced its decision as to whether Man-made carbon dioxide (plant food) poses an "endangerment" to the planet (really) -- has openly admitted for more than a decade that it "does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters" (cached here).

Apparently someone finally decided that keeping this admission out there wasn't going to help the agenda (is there another possible reading?). So, they lied.

Sometime in the past three weeks, someone at the UN IPCC reinvented the group. Now, its web page states instead of the long-acknowledged truth, the falsehood that "The IPCC is a scientific body."

Well, no, it isn't, and changing a website can't change that fact. (Hint: its "chief scientist" and "chief climatologist", depending on which profile of him you read, is actually an economist and longtime UN functionary. Close enough for supragovernmental work). But, possibly this group funded in great part with U.S. taxpayer dollars might tell us when and how did this mission creep occur?

In the meantime, regardless what you say about yourself IPCC, you still perform no scientific research.

UPDATE: An emailer helpfully notes the following: "It appears they just fiddled around with their website (something that's not all that uncommon with organizations that have too much time on their hands). The admission is still there, but now it's under the organization tab."

Burt Rutan, designer/builder of Voyager, the first plane to fly around the world without stopping or refueling, has some very interesting and convincing comments on Climate Change.

Sir,you are an idiot.

wbfrank9| 8.31.09 @ 4:10PM

and Darwin was one too!
Good article and after researching the data: it is right on!
All Cap and Trade is: a money grab. It is bad enough when the UN government tries for a money grab with the above program AND health care 'reform' bowing to the UN. What we really need is a Revolution and kicking the UN butt out of the US. Let France have the body; then no one will pay a bit of attention to that communist body... or more realistic: Anarchist Body!

what happened to the 'august body' that went to, or are going to, tour Alaska? Then they will see the elk and polar bears thriving in and around the oil pipeline. Still with those billions of gallons coming from Alaska why don't we see some?

Darwin, can someone spell AGENDA? It's beyond ridiculous to call Horner an idiot for pointing out the truth. Liberalism is a pox.

Well...I checked the cashed and the new site and he's right...to a point.

The original web page states that the IPCC is "...an intergovernmental scientific body".

The new wording omits the word "intergovernmental" but then re-inserts the term further down in the text.

It also repeats the fact that the IPCC conducts no scientific research of its own.

None of this detracts from the obvious fact that the IPCC is a political organization through and through. It exists for, by and at the convenience of politicians.

Anyone who didn't already realize this is the one who is an idiot. Although, I must admit that they do a credible job of attempting to obscure their political function and to give the impression, instead, that they are "objective" in their assessments.

If you read their mission statement carefully you will notice that they attempt to establish anthropogenic global warming as an a priori assumption. Essentially...their mission is to quantify "man-made global warming"--not the cause of climate change.

"Political" Science. The Ph.Ds who hold these goofy views are probably nothing but grant whores.

Howard Mirkin| 9.1.09 @ 12:48AM

The IPCC did not remove that statement from their web site. Click the "Organization" link on the left. It is still there,
"The IPCC is a scientific body. It reviews and assesses the most recent scientific, technical and socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of climate change. It does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters. Thousands of scientists from all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC on a voluntary basis. Review is an essential part of the IPCC process, to ensure an objective and complete assessment of current information. Differing viewpoints existing within the scientific community are reflected in the IPCC reports. "

This of course does not change the fact they are still lying about Global Whatever they call it these days.

"Liberalism is a pox. " And neo-cons are twats, but that doesn't stop global warming being manmade hysteria.

If the US spent a bit more time caring about its sick people at home and less time invading countries like Iraq, then perhaps it would have done the basic research to prove this manmade rubbish was a hoax. Instead the neo-con twats are bleating like lambs 10minutes from having their testicles cut off by cap and trade!

Eric Cartman| 9.1.09 @ 9:48AM

Mike, Dude, why are you obsessed with testicles? Do you like testicles? Why do you throw your testicles into the debate all the time? Maybe if liberals like yourself quit worrying about testicles and what happens to them when they get cold, you would stop worrying about Iraq and Global Warming! Get over your and other peoples testicles (and lamb, goat, elephant or snake testicles) Just stop with your testicles, okay? Jeez! What a testicle obsessed moron!

Patriot| 9.1.09 @ 2:15PM

Eric, Mike has raisins for testicles; hence the obsession. Liberal "men" are beta boys anyway.
