The Spectacle Blog

Despite what Phil has been reporting -- and Phil's analysis has been spot on, but this is a new wrinkle -- the Huffington Post features a piece saying that the entire health care bill might be pushed through in one fell swoop, without being subject to a filibuster, in a form of legislative hardball almost never seen even in the oft-harsh realms of Congress. In short, no matter what the public says, and no matter what the normal rules are, the Dem leadership and the White House would force an unpopular health bill down the throats of the people.

A prediction: If they do so, it will lead to major civil unrest. And the anger itself, even if not the unrest, will be more than justified.

The problem is that, if Obama controls the levers of state power, civil unrest merely plays into his hands because he has the guns to beat it down. From his bible, Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals (dedicated to "the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history... the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer”), we learn this: "The first step in community organization is community disorganization. The disruption of the present organization is the first step toward community organization. Present arrangements must be disorganized if they are  to be displace by new patterns.... All change means disorganization of the old and organization of the new." p.116 And this: ""An organizer must stir up dissatisfaction and discontent."

The battle, then, is to defeat the effort to nationalize health care by winning enough moderate congressmen to the good side, the side that opposes Obamacare -- so that this one-step ram-through will be defeated. Because once it is imposed, almost ANY reaction will play right into Obama's hands. The goal is to keep him from winning on the front end, keeping in mind the moderates who must be convinced, because once opponents have lost, they wll have lost forever. Civil unrest cannot succeed. Obama has the guns, the power of the Leviathan state. He merely seeks an excuse to use them.

He does not have the people.
They only have so much time because the economy continues to tank. there are many industries that are still tanking horribly (construction for one) and many of the workers unemployment compensation is running out.
They are playing with fire. If moderate Democrats want to ever have a stake in this country, even they will stop such a foolish move!

Ken (Old Texican)| 8.24.09 @ 5:22PM

If he crams it through, Mr. Quinn, he loses. We will shut him down.

T.E.A.M. AMERICA owes its' beginning to you guys. A fellow put his cell number on the comments in one of your splendid blogs, and they are going to turn our whole country around.

They have more money than Soros, and they don't mind spending it to preserve our republic.
Here is a sample:

We are Americans

We fall into two overlapping groups.

We are small business owners or officers of small businesses, and our valued employees... and some of us are armed forces Veterans. Perhaps the common denominator among us is that all of us are our own men and women.
We small business people, our employees, and veterans pay 80% of the darned bills in our country, and we are going to take our country back!

All of us engage in a business that requires us to live off of our training and know how. Some of us are medical doctors in private practice, and some of us are engaged in some of the other 'professions'...in private practice. Some of us are simply darned good at providing a world of products and services to fellow Americans.
Many of us have employees who count on us every day to make decent, rational, decisions. Those employees have thrown in their lot with us, hoping that Together, we can navigate the rapids of our world..

(We found each other due to the splendid people at "The American Spectator". They allow free comments upon the articles they write.)
Today, we are all facing a future where our 'public servants' plan to be our masters, and we here....................... refuse.

We believe that in these days, our 'public servants' are trying to turn everything upside down in our country. Instead of listening to 'we the people', and trying in good faith to defend our constitution at the same time, they are throwing our freedom away for the votes of people they can buy with a welfare check or a bribe.

We as a T.E.A.M. can stop them!

Ok, I was on the road, but have no reached the "Totally Depressed" destination. I just get the feeling we're doomed.

What makes you so certain that the Armed Forces will quash any unrest?

Cris| 8.24.09 @ 6:00PM

Eh? Civil unrest and Obama's got the guns? Obama would shoot himself before he committed suicide politically.

Daisy| 8.24.09 @ 6:11PM

What happens if we can't persuade moderate democrats to join us, Quin? Do you have a plan B?

Are you really so sure American law enforcement will turn on their fellow Americans?

ConservativeWanderer| 8.24.09 @ 6:49PM

Good point, Daisy. Let us also remember that the armed forces are pretty solidly conservative, and I find it difficult to see them attacking citizens on the orders of someone like His Obamaness.

Of course, this also illustrates why so many lefties are dead-set against ordinary citizens having access to firearms.

I do think Quin is right in one respect, tho... if they think things are unruly at town halls now, things will get much worse if they push this through via reconciliation.

JP| 8.24.09 @ 9:20PM

Quinn,
I thought as much these last 2-3 weeks, and the comments from Pelosi on Friday reflect your thinking. The Dems could go for broke and push this monstrosity of a bill on the Americans, despite the populist repulsion otherwise. Obama could easily use the powers of the federal government to thwart the preception of a "dangerous insurrection". He could even legally go as far as to rescind certain Guaranteed Rights such as free speech (Lincoln did something similar; the difference being, there was an armed revolt in 1861). If the President did choose this "nuclear option", he would not only destroy his presidency, but most probably destroy the standing of his own party. We have finally arrived at the pinnacle of the hopes and dreams of the Boomer Generation. Thier dreams of Utopia will result in the destruction of their parent's and grand parent's political party (FDR, Truman, and JFK). This vestigage of the now defunct past (thier own words) must be overcome. Obama is the man to do it. The old coaltions of Civil Rights, Unions, and Cold Warriors cannot survive the assault of Obama, Pelosi, and Reid.

Let the beginnings of a new political culture based on the old Federalists/Libertarian/Conservative ideals begin anew. It is never too late to rediscover the "mystic chords that bind generations".

Mike| 8.24.09 @ 10:36PM

All I can say is I hope the FBI or Secret Service is reading the posts of you whack-jobs. Hey next time try winning an election instead of threatening violence if you don't get your way, assholes.

Nobama| 8.24.09 @ 11:10PM

Mike is the perfect example of the sweet shining radiance of fascist liberal "TOLERANCE."

Thanks again "Mike" for showing us once again what pieces of absolute sh!t you democrats are.

Nobama| 8.24.09 @ 11:13PM

JP, NOT EVERY FREAKIN' BOOMER WANTS A MARXIST TAKEOVER OF OUR COUNTRY, OKAY?! Just the LIBERAL Boomers do.

Moron.

Yosemite Sam| 8.25.09 @ 12:36AM

No doubt about it - if this ramrod effort
is achieved, there'll be a great need for
plenty of change of underwear amongst
the perpetrators in facing their employers
back home.

ConservativeWanderer| 8.25.09 @ 12:36AM

And I am sure "Mike" was just as concerned about all the threats against Bush that we were treated to for eight years. I lost count of the number of "grassroots" protests that had him hung in effigy.

Josie| 8.25.09 @ 12:43AM

CW, it chaps my @ss when liberals are in office--all of a sudden they become all Law and Order and police lovin' folks. They never can see what complete jackasses they are, either.

martin J smith| 8.25.09 @ 7:59AM

Obama and the left rhetoric about opponents of Obama care scare me in the sense of dehumanizing the opposition and what could folllow. I have no grand solutions except to say organize forming coalitions with moderates as well as conservatives ) of those who support democracy. Organize peaceful protests and vote. If the normal methods of fair play do not work--all bets are off.

martin j smith| 8.25.09 @ 8:38AM

Mike's comment is interesting. When the evil Bush was president I cannot count the number of times the left wrote and made films about assasination of Bush or Chaney. And there were acts of violence against Army recruiters etc. And would Mike habve wanted to have the FBI or secret service arrest those people ? Funny when things are on other foot.

2Anglico| 8.25.09 @ 9:27AM

Moderates take a stand????? When donkeys fly.

Oldefarte| 8.25.09 @ 10:00AM

As Quin so states, it's not only a POSSIBILITY, but a PROBABILITY as well. This Chicago-Way, Gestapo-style of current government that we now have is akin to Castro, Chavez, Putin, and yes, Hitler. They control the PRESS, which justifies and promotes their policies, and the current/future/next step is DICTATORIAL ACTIONS by the SUPREME LEADER and his henchmen, regardless of the peoples' wants and needs. Americans SHOULD HAVE [ BUT IGNORANTLY DID NOT] foresee this coming pre-11/4/08; and now the only question is WHAT do we do about it? The answer: VOTE FOR ANY/ALL CONSERVATIVE POLITICAL CANDIDATES and AGAINST ANY/ALL LIBERAL OR OBAMA-COOPERATIVE CANDIDATES [BEGINNING WITH THE 2010 ELECTIONS]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JP| 8.25.09 @ 10:07AM

"JP, NOT EVERY FREAKIN' BOOMER WANTS A MARXIST TAKEOVER OF OUR COUNTRY, OKAY?! Just the LIBERAL Boomers do.

Moron."

Nobama,
Try reading my passage again - I said Boomer Generation, which refers to a demographic group and not an individual. Sometines reading comprehension is important.

William| 8.25.09 @ 10:29AM

Mike? The FBI? They shoot children, don't they?

180 some odd civilians in Waco. Not a bad day's bag under Democrat "law enforcement".

William| 8.25.09 @ 10:41AM

"The problem is that, if Obama controls the levers of state power, civil unrest merely plays into his hands because he has the guns to beat it down."

So did Nicolae Ceauşescu.

I have a LOT more respect for the intellectual prowess of Leon Trotsky than I do for Saul Alinsky. As Trotsky pointed out: "Revolution is impossible until it becomes inevitable".

Regarding Ceauşescu - sic semper tyrannis.

Greg| 8.25.09 @ 1:42PM

I agree we have little to fear from our Troops but what about the local police, National Guard etc.? There are a lot of bleeding heart Liberals among our local law enforcement agencies. Any revolutionary activities will have to contend with these folks FIRST before any National troops are called in. A better course I believe is to continue waging an all out effort against our Government's Representatives on their home front turf; in the Town Hall meetings and and through what ever public forums you can press the issues... This can be significantly more effective than anything else and it is both lawful, and for some of us, a Patriotic Responsibility to participate.

Continue to push Public awareness with distribution of information via the internet and in every available Public forum. Don't forget RADIO... is is relatively inexpensive and can reach a much larger audience than one might imagine. Just think for ma moment about all the frustrated patriotic commuters stuck in traffic on the highways of the major cities and metropolitan regions... The more we can motivate others to join in public discourse, the more pressure we can collectively bring to the issues and the more realistic a positive outcome may yet be achieved.

Democracy works but only when the majority participate. Keep in mind, the Bleeding Heart Liberals who are promoting the Administration's agenda are still in the MINORITY! Wake up America, we can and will reclaim this REPUBLIC yet!

Nobama| 8.25.09 @ 2:31PM

JP: With due respect; you're clueless! Boomer Generation is a demographic group comprised of millions of Americans--mostly Conservative. Your comment tarred the Conservatives, too.

No way in hell does this Baby Boomer support Obummer and it's insulting to millions of Conservative Boomers to suggest otherwise.

drt2568| 9.21.09 @ 4:17PM

Obama's objective is not universal healthcare, or any other liberal policy, or the continuing dominance of the democrat party, those are only vehicles to his real objective: the implosion of the republic and the removal of america as an force on the international scene, unfortunately I believe he will succeed.

Joseph| 11.2.09 @ 4:46PM

We have the right to defend ourselves, even if its from our own appointed officials.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
