Now That's Change

A headline on RealClearPolitics: "Obama seeks to rally support for the war." The link is to this Reuters story on the Good War in Afghanistan, of course -- a war that made sense when its objective was to rout those who harbored the 9/11 murderers but makes less sense now that its objective seems to be elastic. Obama as war president: Freedom is on the march!

Anyone want to wager on how long we will have to wait before the media discover another "Grim Milestone" in the war? Those milestones seemed to come along at a brisk pace during the Bush Administration, but I'll be darned if I have heard of one since...oh, I don't know...maybe the third week in January.

Are we on a different road, or are the milestones no longer grim? Certainly it cannot be that liberals are titanic hypocrites, can it? And how 'bout that Surge? The new, wonderful one, not the old, terrible one. Because--again, miraculously--surges have become brilliant strategy since January.

Wonderful, wonderful new world!

There is only one way to ensure avoiding hypocrisy on this issue, and I hope you consider it:

Decide now that you are against the next war of foreign intervention no matter which party's president suggests it.

Your progeny will thank you.
