Les Paul, RIP

The electric guitar and multitrack recording pioneer died at the age of 94. One of the greats, though he won't get a fraction of Michael Jackson's coverage.

Les Paul gave electronic voice to Rock 'n Roll. I can't imagine the music without him. Also, overdubbing made the music more voluptuous by means of layered texture. Imagine, for example, Sergeant Pepper without it.

He was better than anyone else who ever played jazz guitar - just listen to his "How High The Moon" - unbelievable!

The music world lost a great musician/innovator.

A painter for a portrait of young women, the two old man stopped him in the artist.
"Two years ago, there is a painter as a portrait of my daughter," one old man said, "up to now not a good painting." "It's nothing," another old man said, "30 years ago, our city a good start to the artist portrait of my wife." "How the?" "Until now, I did get pictures, do not have to see his wife."

Highbrows are apt to say Les Paul ruined modern music by taking the lowly guitar and putting it to the forefront or performed and recorded music. Guitar, that is, being that it belongs to a primative and savage era. In fact, a Les Paul guitar-- and its imatators-- can be as smooth as silk or raw as a chainsaw. Your choice.

Rock and Roll is a guitar-driven music and there nothing as exciting as a hot guitar pulling everything and everyone behind it. It is fair to say that, without Les Paul, Elvis, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Stones, CSNY, The Stone Roses, U2...even Bubblepuppy would never have existed.
