All in the Game

Jamie Kirchick has a good piece in the NY Daily News explaining that the "birther" controversy is in fact manufactured by the left. He sums it up nicely:

It is not Obama's right-wing opponents, however, who are devoting the most attention to this obscure, Internet-driven "movement," if one can even use that label to describe such a paranoid groupuscule. Rather, it's liberals, bent on portraying their conservative opponents as extremists - and changing the subject to help a President under increasing scrutiny for the substance of his policies - who are driving this story.

Relatedly, Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic has written a useful explanation of the White House's strategy to paint the opposition as composed of birthers, people who believe the president is a secret islamist, and other extremists. Doing so is their best hope for getting their big projects -- such as health care -- passed despite the public's growing wariness.

It seems as though "birthers" could be fringey crazy nuts.

But it wouldn't be an issue if his birth were documented, would it?

And, according to the law of the land as stated in the Constitution, this is a binary matter. US citizen, able to be president. Non-citizen, not able to be president.

Boxer says she can tell that they’re fakes, because they’re too well dressed.

This proves it for me .. the Code Pink, ACORN and MoveOn.org folks just have no fashion sense whatsoever.

I propose that beginning in 2012 that instead of the political party of the candidate verifying only to their satisfaction their candidate's eligibility that the FBI do the research and report its findings to the Supreme Court. It is shocking that we rely solely on the DNC and RNC to vet the candidates!

I wonder what Bush could have done if he painted all liberals as 9/11 truthers?

I find it curious that so many conservatives are so eager to jump in the sack with the left and condemn the "birthers." Gee, that's very sporting of you equinanimous chaps.

Liberals not only embrace their side's "paranoid" extremists, they elevate them to sanctified positions in the pantheon of Democrats Who Advance the Cause of Socialism. Many of our "bright lights," however, jump over to the liberals' side and cluck-cluck in unison with our enemies.

Practically speaking, the birthing issue is a moot point - it's hard to prove definitively and, in any case, we're never going to dislodge Obama.

But why do conservatives always insist on playing nice no matter how much excrement the left splatters all over our lilly-white visages?

The insistence on the part of so many conservatives to use Marquis of Queensbury rules even as we are waylaid in a no-holds-barred brawl only serves to deliver us into the maw of socialism all the faster.

I'm tired of these holier-than-thou conservatives pooh-poohing every argument or tactic that isn't antiseptic, sterile and theoretically pristine. Who are you impressing? Yeah, we desperately need the Krauthammers of the world, but we dearly need more Coulters - and, when it comes to fighting dirty, we have no counterpart whatsoever to the toxic Chris Matthewses and Maureen Dowds and Paul Krugmans and the army of sphincter-like lefty bloggers like Perez Hilton.

We're in an existential struggle for the future of this country. If we need to grab whatever's at hand in order to keep the barbarians out, I say grab it and throw it at them with all of our might. Hell, they'll thow it at us.

If this were McCain, do you think any of these rabid dogs of the left would be loosening their vise-like grip on the very same issue? No, there would be nine-figure budgets doled out by Soros and lobbiests for the Moveon.orgs and Huffington Posts and MSNBCs and CNNs and the entire panoply of mainstream media to keep battering the American people with the issue until we cry, "no mas!" There would be an out-and-out assault on McCain's legitimacy 24/7.

But no. When it comes time for conservatives to fight back, we sit with our hands deferentially clasped and wait until we're called on.

ARGGGGHHH!

Grzmlyk: they're jumping into the sack because they're not bright enough to figure out how to turn this issue to their advantage. They could point out that those who scream "KENYA!" are wrong *at the same time* as they're fighting against BHO supporters and showing how those supporters are wrong.

Instead, what they're doing is helping Obama and rewarding faulty MSM coverage.
