Mary Katherine Ham asks Andrew Sullivan to remove the beam from his own eye before he criticizes the birthers for the mote in theirs. And in passing she makes an invidious comparison between Sullivan and a paranoid, crazed, and irrational conspiracy theorist.

"A paranoid, crazed, and irrational conspiracy theorist"....
Who?
Rush Limbaugh?
The right's gone wack-job.
Jackson| 7.28.09 @ 7:04PM
Sure, 'rolling donut' truther LibReader/Jeremiah. Sure, whack job.
Liberal Reader| 7.28.09 @ 7:31PM
Rush Limbaugh has been central in circulating this dim-witted, zany conspiracy theory.
Naturally, ALL evidence is against it. Obama most certainly is a natural born citizen. Lou Dobbs, a malicious liar, shares some of the blame. Liz Cheney and the Republicans in Congress who backed a the Birther Bill are all disgraced.
Birtherism is utlimately the toady of right wing populist racism.

Lib
How much does your gig pay? Is it by the word or by the post. Just wondering... do the posts have to differ or can you just post the same screed over and over? Do they pay you a bonus for throwing Palin, Limbaugh, Hanity, Levin ,Beck, O’Rieley or other identified enemies into the diatribe? Just wondering.
As to the article is self. I was already to write this whole thing off completely when all of a sudden this big push to deny and disparage. What is that all about?
As I have written earlier I really do not think the pursuit worth the time in a tactical sense. If the issue is as nonsensical as Team O claims, then why are they spending all of the fanfare in the denial? We have officials from HI and Gibbs and much of the left pundocracy… It is like they wish to stir the pot by their very denial. It is curious to observe.
Misdirection anyone?
Kat| 7.28.09 @ 7:53PM
LibReader/Jeremiah, did you get your marching orders from the White House to try and tag this birthing deal on Rush? Nice try, whack job--but it won't work. You fascist libs have tried everything in the book to destroy Rush--how's it workin' for ya, moron?
He's more incredibly successful than ever and now he's a hottie, too! Keep up your weight loss regimen, Rush--we want you around for a very long time!!
Bob NT| 7.28.09 @ 8:41PM
Lib,
Limbaugh make box cars of money jerking the chain of you libs daily. His very existence really chaps your backsides.
Did you like the Barak Nifong bit.. I thought it was classic and brilliant at the same time. Linking the liberal rush to judgment in the lacrosse case to the presidents idiotic remarks last Wednesday... Direct hit...
I have no need to defend him but your already worn credibility is further diminished with charges that have no basis in fact...
That there are" birthers" I cannot deny, that I think their energy could produce greater results directed elsewhere is also true, that Limbaugh is in anyway head of that train is just plain not true.
But you stick with it bucko, you find your way some day.
Steve in MI| 7.28.09 @ 9:34PM
All of our Republican mouthpieces in the media have done their level best to throw this story and ALL "birthers" under the collective bus. Some, like Medved become completely unhinged on the subject. All, though, recount the laundry list of "evidence" and debunk the various foreign birth claims & sources. None, however, have an answer for the legal question of a Hawaiian birth to a Foreign national and an under-aged US mother according to 1960's US Immigration Law. Maybe Bob Tyrell has, but I missed it.
Kathy| 7.28.09 @ 9:40PM
Sullivan's nuts--like most libs.
Basil Plumley| 7.28.09 @ 9:58PM
Hey Liberal Reader,
Time to do some reading and research. Look up the name of Phil Berg. He is the first person to start this hysteria over Obama's eligibility.
He is/was a Hillary supporter. He started this theory last year around the time of the Dem National Convention. It was then picked up and treated as fact by WND and other assorted outlets.
Hell, there is even a copy of his Kenyan Birth Certificate floating around the internet. This theory has been around for a while. To blame it on Rush is really intellectually dishonest and lazy. We have grown accustomed to this schtick from you.
Started by a Democrat. Who also happens to be a "truther". You really need to look up Phil Berg. Donate some money to his cause while you visit his site. After all, fool and his money are soon parted.
Dave| 7.28.09 @ 10:12PM
WHY HAS OBAMA SPENT SO MUCH MONEY KEEPING HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE HIDDEN?
WHAT DOES IT SHOW OR NOT SHOW???????
Willey| 7.28.09 @ 11:10PM
Dave, you may be right but you are wasting precious time and energy on this issue. We have to fight Obama's Marxist takeover of our country.
We can investigate the clown's citizenship status after we've impeached him.
Basil Plumley| 7.29.09 @ 12:13AM
@ Willey
You are correct. This may be trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Obama and the Dems are a target rich environment. We should never waste an opportunity.
Sean| 7.29.09 @ 4:46AM
Willey, most people can walk and chew bubble gum at the same time. Why can't people ask to see Obama's birth certificate as well as oppose his agenda in government? They are not mutually exclusive. I don't say boy I wish I could oppose Sotomayor or the nationalization of GM, but it would be a waste of energy when I really need to oppose nationalization of healthcare. Conservatives need to learn to attack on all fronts just like the liberals do.
kiwikit| 7.29.09 @ 5:42AM
What about his college records? Did he or did BO not go to occidental on a Fullbright for foreign students? Where's the documentation from his college records?
Kitty| 7.29.09 @ 7:01AM
Question: What if it's proven that B-HO was not eligible to become president? What happens then?
...
Willey| 7.29.09 @ 7:44AM
I don't know, Sean; I wish challenging the liberal juggernaut were as easy as walking and chewing gum at the same time.
I'm not even sure we can overcome this ObamaCare nightmare. We need to focus and put our efforts where they can do the most good, and I believe health care should come first. Flippancy is foolish and dangerous.
Ran| 7.29.09 @ 7:50AM
"Rush Limbaugh has been central in circulating this dim-witted, zany conspiracy theory."
Hah! That's the joke, isn't it? There's no conspiracy! It's just two men: The current President and Michelle Obama's husband.
Shame you know... the entire "conspiracy" boils down to one man, two or three documents and four hours in Federal court - and the whole thing is resolved. Or put it like this: Three documents, Article II , Section I. Either way, it isn't much, is it?
No Mosad, no black helicopters... as "grand conspiracies" run, this one's somewhat lame. What puzzles me is this: Without a Constitutional requirement, I've certainly had to fess-up the same documentation to my employer. Why not the President? Are we truly being unreasonable in the request?
Thomas| 7.29.09 @ 9:48AM
As I have said before, this should be a non-issue. All Barack Obama has to do is release his long form Hawaiian birth certificate and this controversy all goes away. Unless, of course, that document indicates that he is not a natural born citizen of the United States. I am sure that there will be some who would question the authenticity of even that document, but the vast majority of people would accept it as genuine. If it indicated that the President was a natural born citizen of the U.S. that would effectively end the debate.
So, why not simply make this document, and all other documents relevant to the President's past life, available for public scrutiny? After all, every other sitting President has done so. So why not Barack Obama? Why refuse to release a basic identity document that virtually every American routinely releases several times in their life for everything from admittance into little league, to obtaining a driver's license, to getting a passport? That is what generates the controversy. Not Rush Limbaugh, not WND, not talk radio; but the President of the United States. It is becoming so ridiculous, that even the President's supporters are beginning to doubt his claim that he is a natural born citizen.
Now here is the big problem. The governments of this nation have allowed this situation to develop, through their willful negligence to require documentation establishing eligibility. And they are terrified of the public backlash if it is proven that the sitting President is ineligible for the office. But, it gets worse. Should he be proven to be ineligible, he would have to step down. That is clearly spelled out in the 20th Amendment to the Constitution. If he refuses, that causes a Constitutional crisis. If he does step down, there is no mechanism in place, beyond establishing the VP as interim President, for the selection of a new President. This causes a political crisis of unimaginable scope. Then there is the popular backlash to the removal of the first black President because of a "technicality". Add to that the problem of the legality of virtually every action taken by the federal government since the inauguration [laws, Presidential appointments, directives, treaties, etc], and the problem is magnified with every passing day. This situation is a veritable powder keg. And no one in government is willing to get to close to it. But ignoring it won't make it go away.
As for not being able to defeat the health care boondoggle, the cap and tax boondoggle, the LOST treaty boondoggle and question the legitimacy of the current Presidency, that is simply ridiculous. The people of this nation are perfectly capable of doing more than one thing at a time. It is simply another thin excuse to let sleeping dogs lie. But, eventually this dog will wake up.
Tom Rowan| 7.29.09 @ 10:18AM
I don't get it. I just don't get it. Reasonable people can wonder and muse about why Obama's 2008 Presidential Campaign is spending money to block access to Obama's birth certificate. This is still a free country. People can sue for information and file Freedom of Information suits. So why all the hub bub?
It is a fact that Obama's 2008 Presidential Campaign is fighting access to Obama's birth certificate in courts across America. It is also a fact that Obama has not released his college transcripts or medical records.
This demand for transparancy is quite mild for a candidate for president. And yet reasonable people who are bemused by the fact that the Obama 2008 Presidential Campaign has spent million(s?) on blocking access to his birth certificate are being scorned as being Hale Bopp Comet Conspriracy loons.
The only folks dreaming up conspiracy theories are those who believe Obama is purposely withholding his birth certificate to discredit people who demand he release it. Obama discredits people all the time without merit, (Joe the Plumber, Frank Ricci, Jimmy Crowley.)
I don't really care what Obama's birth certificate says. I am just curious to find out which hospital he was born and which Dr delivered him. I find it odd that anyone, including the Obama 2008 Presidential Campaign, would object to that. Is this just a Obama's political pay off to the Birth Certificate Defense Lawyer Community? Just sayin.

"Rush Limbaugh has been central in circulating this dim-witted, zany conspiracy theory. "
Lib, you are on a Rush binge lately. Unlike you or I, people actually pay money to hear what Rush thinks. There is no government subsidy for him, no grants given.
You want to teach ole Rush a lesson? Start a radio show from nothing and put him in second place. On the day you replace him at number one he will congratulate you- he won't be found bitching about you on blogs.
Basil Plumley| 7.29.09 @ 11:00AM
@ Ran
I understand your concerns but this whole thing bothers me because of who initiated the inquiry. What bothers me more is how and why Berg reached the conclusion he did.
What is the nature of the evidence?
There are certainly a lot of questions but very little evidence to support the theory.
I don't know whether Obama was born here or not but I do know that courts of law are not going to allow a fishing expedition.
It has always amazed me how Democrats/Liberals have no problem using Private Investigators and other nefarious methods to uncover dirt on their opponents. Yet, the GOP/Conservatives look to the courts for their salvation.
Just a thought, but don't you think there are other methods and avenues to take to get the information you seek?
The point is, there are other places where information could be gleaned. Have these areas been explored?
Probably not, you see the entire thrust of this action is on the State of HI records. I think this whole exercise has been futile and it only has brought greater frustration to the process.
Are there lingering questions? Sure, but questions alone isn't evidence or proof. There is doubt, but even that alone isn't sufficient to have a fishing expedition.
Willey| 7.29.09 @ 1:45PM
I've got NO argument with any of you people (Except stupid LibReader), I just want to doom Obama's agenda. I would gladly push the "Birther" issue if I thought it would work. If you've got something, I'll listen.
Until there's something concrete, though, I've got to first focus my energies on Obama's extreme Marxist agenda currently threatening our country.
Angel| 7.29.09 @ 1:58PM
Basil, check out Jeffrey Lord's blog on 7/28 @ 12:30 PM. LibReader/Jeremiah got a pretty good roasting. Red Sex Jeremiah. lol!

So glad ya' all keeping the birth thing going. Do not back down. This will ensure strong showings for the Dem's.
Hopefully our new health care will include mental health services for all of you to get beyond your anger and rejoin civil society for normal discourse on important issues of the day.
Jeremiah| 7.30.09 @ 6:33PM
Sure, April--with Obummer's national approvals tanking and his ObamaCare in the toilet--you liberals are the ones who will need the meds.
I strongly suggest electric-shock treatments for all of you. Loser.
