Giving Up on Health Care Reform--And Social Security

According to the latest Zogby poll, independents have turned against Obama-like health care "reform."  Republicans and Democrats serve as mirror images of each other, but a majority of independents say no thanks to budget-busting, choice-destroying government control.

Reports Zogby:

Respondents were presented with two statements describing different universal healthcare plans and asked whether they agree or disagree with each:

Universal Plan A - "Do you agree or disagree with a universal healthcare plan that would require everyone in the U.S. to have health insurance with federal help for those who cannot pay the premiums?"

Universal Plan B - "Do you agree or disagree with a universal healthcare plan where the government would provide health insurance for everyone in the U.S. under a single-payer plan, similar to everyone having Medicare?"

Plan A

  Overall Democrats Independents Republicans
Agree 49 86 43 11
Disagree 48 11 53 86
Not Sure 3 3 3 2

Plan B

  Overall Democrats Independents Republicans
Agree 44 81 39 7
Disagree 52 15 57 91
Not Sure 4 5 4 2

*Numbers may not add to 100% due to rounding

Perhaps even more important over the long-term, most Americans don't believe Social Security and Medicare will be there for their kids.  Most young people don't believe it will be there for them.  The American people seem to be wising up!

I receive a statement from the Social Security Administration each year listing all the monies that I have put into the system since I began working.

I took that statement to my accountant to 'run the numbers'.
Had I deposited that money each week of each year over my lifetime at a scant 5% return, I'd be worth $1.2 Million right now at age 55.

Additionally, when I die, I could have passed that on to my son and my grandchildren so that they could add that to their retirement savings and so on....

Instead.....I've got NOTHING! NOTHING! And, by the time I reach "retirement age" (currently 68 years old) they will have moved the goal post to 72 or 75. And...when I die, my heirs get NOTHING! NOTHING!

The frickin government has stolen it all. They've stolen my future and the future of my children and grandchildren....and for what?

Those bastards should be rounded up and hung on the Capitol steps with piano wire and their bodies left to rot as a warning to future politicians.

I agree

We are never going to see Social Security, add to that 401k and IRAs totally destroyed , and they are in the process of stealing our children’s, grandchildren’s and their children’s earnings. They need to see pitchforks, torches, and maybe a vat of hot tar, and a truckload of feathers.

Your sentiments (shared by many) may be the driving force behind the rationing component of Obamacare.... simply cross reference voter registration with Electronic medical records and you know immediately whose care to ration...

Consider yourselves lucky you are not already subject to government "healthcare" via Medicare. I just became eligible at age 63 because I've been on Disability for 2 years. You would not believe the crap you have to wade through deciding on "regular", Part B, Part C, and Part D. Want Part D (drug coverage)? You have to take Med + Part B first. Already have a private health plan (like I do)? Tough - if I don't take Part B now, I will pay 20% more for it later. Why? No explanation - I just do.

I've been trying to sort this crap out for 2 months and only have until October to decide how to handle this. One way or the other I will lose some of my current (better) coverage just to get anything from Medicare.

Solo is quite correct - I started working at age 14 and worked until age 61 before becoming disabled. I'd be worth more than a cool million if I could have invested that money as Pres. Bush wanted. Luckily I cashed in my 401k before it lost more than half its value within a month of Zero being elected.
