Re: the F-22.

Frankly, the DOD procurement methods have to be changed because the hardware they buy is way too expensive. My guess is that inefficiencies, lack of competition, and bureaucratic idiocy are the cause.
That being said, the USA will rue the day they canceled this plane.
As usual, the USA is fighting the last war. Present thinking is that future conflicts will be on the order of Iraq, Afganistan and "counter-insurgency" ops.
Why?
Because over the last 15 years, that is what the USA has been engaged in and air superiority fighters were not needed.
Of course, China is arming itself to the teeth.
Why?
Who knows.
But sooner rather than later, they will develop, with Russian help, a fighter that is probably better than our 25 year old F15s.
As for the F35, well, that plane is supposed to serve all branches of the military, which only means it is a compromise. It is not an air superiority plane.
Recall the Air Force wanted to rid itself of the Wart Hog, because they figured they would never need it. Sure.

For those who have not yet figured out what Obama is all about -- destroy the military, CIA and other intelligence organizations -- just like Klintoon did. One does not need heavy armor when kissing the runt from N. Korea, Chavez, etc. Obama will just have to stoop to do it, much as he did when bowing to the Saudi "king." Perhaps Obama will build a couple of F35s but you can bet that they will prove to be poor aircraft and will be scuttled. Bets anyone?????????
