Re: Terrible Cap and Tax Bill

My question is, what message did House Whip Eric Cantor and Minority Leader John Boehner deliver to the eight Republican strays?

My question is, what message did House Whip Eric Cantor and Minority Leader John Boehner deliver to the eight Republican strays? If it was anything less than a promise, if they voted "yes," to:

1. Withhold all future NRCC funds

2. Recruit and massively fund a primary opponent

3. Remove them from any leadership roles they might have

-- then GOP leadership's message wasn't strong enough. This was a vote that demanded principle and unanimity for a party that claims the mantle of lower taxes and limited government, and once again, it failed.

Thanks Paul

.....Just makes one sick at heart doesn't it?

Those 8 guys simply sold us down the river for personal gain...of some sort.

I do have to thank 44 Demos for crossing the line though. Whoed' a thunk it.

1) There was first in the 1970's the globaloney cooling scam (see e.g. Newsweek April 28 1975 on the internet); the government-paid scientists (90% of them are rejects of private enterprise) recommended to fight the new ice age by sending our war planes to cover the polar ice with soot in order to increase solar heat and prevent crushing of New York skyscrapers by the new glaciers;
2) When that did not work we had the globaloney warming hoax in the 1990's, proclaimed by mainly the same government-paid scientists (Dr. Hansen of the NOAA, for example); to prevent the massive heating, fires, flooding of coastal cities, disappearance of Florida, California, and Caribbean islands, massive hurricanes, global famine, and other catastrophic events we should nationalize oil and gas and coal and electricity companies;
3) after 11 years of considerable cooling we are now faced with the climate change flimflam where whatever happens with our climate we should nationalize oil and gas and coal and electricity companies; and why not our banks, car companies while we are at it. To prevent this catastrophe the best vehicle presumably is international agreements enforced by the United Nations world government.
As for the influence of carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas: on a normal day the atmoshere contains 10,000 ppm (parts per million) of water vapor and about 300 ppm of carbon dioxide. The government-paid scientists say that an increase of 100 ppm of CO2 over the next 50 years will result in a catastrophic warming. The thermal absorptivity of water vapor is 4 times larger than that of carbon dioxide; it follows that the CO2 increase will increase the overall thermal absorptivity of the mixture by about 1/4 of one percent. The production of methane from livestock and the swamps (or as the enviro-nazis call those "wetlands") vastly surpasses the influence of CO2.
There is the Global Warming Petition Project (see Internet) where 31,478 US independent scientists declared that there is no anthropogenic (human-caused) global warming; of these 9,029 are scientists with PhD degrees. Our enviro-nazis tried to sabotage this effort by submiiting phony names with phoney degrees - and then claimed the whole effort by the Petition scientists was a fraud. It took us 3 years and a lot of private money to verify the credentials of all the signatories and clean up the Petition of those saboteurs. See also Manhattan Declaration with more such signatories, plus a large number of scientific groups from other countries who state the same.
I am one of these signatories, MS and PhD degrees from UCLA, with majors in thermodynamics and heat & mass transfer.
I think to fight this communist attempt to secure a permanent hold on power should not be fought on the narrow grounds of more taxes - that is the losing proposition; where about 50% of the population is on some kind of welfare we will always be outvoted. The battle should be fought and won on the firm scientific basis.
SCAM - HOAX - FLIMFLAM!!!

"I do have to thank 44 Demos for crossing the line though. Whoed' a thunk it."

Ah, you're falling for the trap. It's called whipping. The House majority counts the votes, and once they have 219 in favor, they "let" people vote against if it might hurt them politically in their districts.

Don't worry, even if all 8 Republicans had voted against, the Democratic Whips would have forced 8 of those Democrats who voted against to vote for.

If a bill is unpopular, it's always going to pass with a tiny majority, if the Majority Party is doing their job.

I keep thinking of an old SNL skit with Roseanne Roseannadanna that might go something like this:
A reader from Fort Lee, New Jersey writes:
Dear Roseanne Roseannadanna,
What’s up with this Waxman-Markey Cap and Trade bill that passed on the floor of the house last night? Will this affect everybody’s house, or is it just mine?

Well, I don’t know about it much except I ain’t gonna allow any wacky Marxists in my house, especially if all they're gonna do is a tirade in my living room and leave excrement on the floor. Sounds like a great big stinkin’ mess to me.

Ellen| 6.27.09 @ 2:15PM

Mark Kirk, of the 10th congressional district in ILLINOIS voted yes. I called his number last night and told him he lost 5 voters in this household and gained 5 voters who will actively campaign against any re-election or election bid. Rumor is, he may run for Governor of Il or for Roland Burris's senate seat. He won in a very close election in 2008. He's outathere, and I will do all I can to ensure same.

Darrell| 6.27.09 @ 5:43PM

Ellen, I and my family are also Mark Kirk's constituents, and have voted for him and his predecessor (Porter) since 1979; moreover, we still have Kirk bumper stickers on our cars.

We tried to call his 4 offices for 2 days but always encountered the "mailbox is full" message, so I finally sent an off-color email this morning telling him what we think of him. I also removed my cars' bumper stickers.

I found it interesting that shortly after reading your article, I came across this at the Senatus site
"Delaware Senate: Castle Still Considering a Run"-http://senatus.wordpress.com/2009/06/27/delaware-senate-castle-still-considering-a-run/
We shall see whether the Republican Party has lost all connection with principles if they support or encourage him in this bid. I suspect they will.

CKA in Red State USA| 6.27.09 @ 9:36PM

The League of Conservation Voters threatened Thursday to go after anyone who voted "Yes" on Waxman-Markey.

Perhaps, now, if there's any hint of spine left in the Republican Party, it will deliver the same message to those in its ranks--and that does include the two senators who voted earlier this year for the so-called stimulus package--who voted for Waxman-Markey.

Perhaps, too, conservatives and others who understand the travesty that occurred Friday in the House of Representatives will also work to unseat those so-called Republicans who've now voted for what might be the largest tax increase in history.

And who, lunkheads they are, also gave Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama even more reason to be even more arrogant and partisan.

But, hey, the Senate's still got to put its mitts on Waxman-Markey. I guess we'll see how temperate they really are.

CKA in Red State USA| 6.27.09 @ 10:22PM

Oops. Big mistake regarding what I wrote about the LCV in my previous comment: The "Yes" should be "No."

Must be s0-called AGW that affected my memory.

Blog Goliard| 6.28.09 @ 12:32AM

Let's not kid ourselves. The Beltway Republicans will go to the mat to defend each and every one of these eight idiots against any and all comers.

And they will do so with special relish in any case where the primary opponent is someone whom their liberal friends at the Georgetown cocktail parties particularly despise.

patriot| 6.28.09 @ 2:03PM

On Kirk in Illinois, a run Governor maybe, I heard a run for Senate for Obama's seat. This means he'll want funds from the NRSC, and based on the clay feet they have (Crist and Specter) Kirk will be right up their alley. Which means the NRSC will get no money from me !! Are you listening NRSC?!

Bad Environmental Ideas?

Roger from Solar Power Facts| 6.29.09 @ 11:41PM

It's the Democrats who need to have a look at their leadership. Obama had this bill, or its contents at least, as one of his major electrion platforms. Then, when it's vote time, 44 of his own party oppose it!

I hope everyone knows what their representative looks like so when they see them in public they can let them know exactly how they fell about their vote for cap & tax. If you wouldn’t know your rep on the street download this PDF document with names, districts and photos of the representatives who voted for cap & tax.
