Democrats Rushing to Cap-and-Trade Suicide; UPDATED: Another 300Pages?
10:01 a.m. ET: According to Ed Morrissey at Hot Air, Henry Waxman just tacked on another 300 pages in the dead of night! This monstrosity is like one of those 1950s sci-fi creatures that just keeps growing and growing . . .
PREVIOUSLY (8:53 a.m.): Such is the feverish haste with which Democrats are trying to rush Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade through the House that, as with the $787 "stimulus," they're preparing to vote on a 1,000-plus-page bill that none of them have read.
According to the Sunlight Foundation, on June 19, when the bill was placed on the House calendar, it was 964 pages. By Monday, when it was submitted to the House Rules Committee, it was 1,201 pages. Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) has noted that the bill bypassed key committees, and none other than Rep. Charles Dingell (D-Mich.) has described it as a "huge tax."
Given this situation, the hurry to ram through the "massive job-killer" can only be compared to lemmings rushing toward a cliff. If Nancy Pelosi can impose party discipline, Democrats will find themselves under intolerable pressure to vote "yes" and the lemming impulse will prevail. But, as with the stimulus bill, no Republican should join this lemming rush.
Opponents of Waxman-Markey are praying that they can find enough "Blue Dog" Democrat votes to stop the bill. Yet the lemming impulse of the Democrats toward mass suicide could be so powerful that many House members will sign their own political death warrants today. Maybe some of these Democrats should talk to George "Buddy" Darden, the Democrat who representated the Seventh District of Georgia until he allowed himself to be talking into voting for Bill Clinton's gun-grabbing "crime bill" in 1994.
Legislative haste of the sort exemplified by H.R. 2454 contradicts the advice of our Founders. Smitty, a military man of constitutionalist persuasion who helps me out at my personal blog, was moved today to quote James Madison's famous expression of the rule of law:
It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes that no man, who knows what the law is to-day, can guess what it will be to-morrow. Law is defined to be a rule of action; but how can that be a rule, which is little known, and less fixed?
Sheer regard for political self-preservation may produce enough Democratic "no" votes today to stop Waxman-Markey. If not, the repeal of this disastrous legislation should be the first campaign promise of every Republican challenger in 2010.

No patriotic and informed American can support the global warming/cap and trade scam, a huge Ponzy scheme that will kill the U.S. economy.

Those brainwashed to the point of wanting to destroy the economy to "prevent global warming" are behaving like the most primitive human beings who were duped into believing that human sacrifices would ensure them good weather. Human beings don't have the power to control climate! And killing the economy will not help the environment. Poor countries can't protect the environment. Just look at Haiti!
Please keep in ming who is voting in favor of the abomination that is cap and trade. They'll have to answer to us for killing our businesses, taking away our jobs, and helping Obama enslave us with his Ponzy scheme.

The only bright side. If this passes, the Democratic party is toast. The science against this is overwhelming, and ultimately cannot be suppressed. Once the alarmists get such a huge victory, the funding for bogus science will decline.

It is not surprising that the idiots who have driven California to the brink of bankruptcy with their legislation to control energy and increase taxes want to now take their "success' and destroy the rest of the nation with the same nonsense. Businesses are moving out of california, people are facing high unemployment, taxes are so high the state is no longer a place the average person can afford to live. The socialists love this because it means they can control everything and the end result is they can force you to vote for them or else. Where are the intelligent people in this country? Where are the people with backbone? Whay are we allowing these fools to destroy our nation? Whay are we permitting something that is all theory and proven time and again to be inaccurate dictate our lives. It should be no surprise that this passed. The dems need a way to pay for their massive healthcare. I know we have already been told by the powercompany to expect a 30% increase in electric bills...which essentially will put me out of a job. Ty, I find it remarkably funny you use the term "DISPROVEN cliches and fears." The global warming hoax that is driving this stupid law. Aside from that your comment was empty and not worth debating.
What is debatable is the shear communist intents of this law. Central planners in Congress can not drive anything as complicated as energy production and distribution. It is frightening that politicians have the arrogance to claim they know best how to produce power, produce cars, treat your medical illness (don't get that surgery just take pain killers - Obama) and all the other government regulated boondoggles. There is an old cliche about the socialism of India back in the day. "You can have any color you want as long as it's black." Ironically this was not about Ford's tinlizzy but about the color of sweater you were allowed to procure from the local political supply wearhouse.

It is pretty obvious to me what is going on. The Liberals have spent all the money paid into Social Security, have no money to keep up with the huge expense of the Baby Boomers ageing and tapping into what they consider "their money." (our tax dollars) Now they are spending more unearned dollars trying to undo the mess they have us into. It is all "smoke and mirrors.' Obama is using his slick rhetoric to convince the uninformed and unintelligent that he is doing something that will benefit them. Bull.... he is trying to lie himself out of having to meet unrealistic mandates called Social Security and medicare. This health care baloney is a front. Face it...the baby Boomers will soon be retiring. That means they stop paying taxes into the system. At this point they stop being an asset (those who pay taxes to a tax and spend Liberal are considered assets) and become a liability (when you start with drawing from social security and Medicare). With Obama's health care plan, fashioned after Europes, the idea is to kill off the oldest citizens who are no longer paying taxes and keep those who do pay taxes healthy.
The energy "cap and Trade" is another front to fund his new socialism programs. He has no where else to go. We already know that we will soon be paying 65-75% in taxes, like they do in Ireland, to pay for the new programs he is instituting. These stimulus programs are fancy names for Affrimative Action and Reparations. Only people like Acorn, the union leaders (for a while) and those that are trying to destroy the dollar as the world standard for their own financial benefit, i.e. George Soros, will benefit from these incredibly non-American programs. I pray that God is watching over us.

Why is anyone surprised the Dems are pushing this through as fast as they can? They want it passed before anyone has a chance to read it.
Just like they did with the $850B Stimulus package, and just like they're trying (with less success) to do with the Health Care Reform bill.
The reason is that they KNOW these bills are deeply flawed. They don't really care; the intent is to get world-changing legislation passed while the getting is good. Future generations can clean up the mess and figure out how to pay for it.

So TY paid attention in school? To what? Did he learn about global warming in school? I guess he didn't learn about REAL science in school. Like thermodynamics, weather, chemistry, math, etc. This guy is such a useless sheep for the liberals that his breath must smell like lanolin. He'll believe anything that comes out of Gore's mouth. Having been working in R&D for over 30 years, I resent having a bunch of political HACKS tell me about science. I'll listen to them about science when they listen to me about politics.

Cap and trade is another one of the Obama's Administrations hidden agenda. Prior to this economic downturn the cost to heat a house in the Midwest was extremely high. Now, just imagine with some 650 million people out of work in America HOW WILL THE UNEMPLOYED PAY THIER HEATING BILL??? We are so screwed. This is just the beginning of the problems if the bill passes. Imagine if they regulate emissions on livestock such as dairy cows. This could be $150.00 a head which could potentially run business into the ground. Millions more will be unemployed. The cost for milk, butter, and meat would be unatainable. I can see it now . . the government will ration our food. I hate to be a doom and gloomer, but Americans need to wake up and DEMAND the government listen to "we the people". WE SIMPLY CANNOT AFFORD TO BE TRAMPLED ON ANY LONER BY THE OBAMA SOCIALIST REGIME!!!
