Let's look at a political double standard.

In general terms --of course, there are exceptions-- the adultery and public confession of South Carolina's Republican governor Mark Sanford is a career-ender for a Republican.

For a Democrat, however, it would be more of a resume-builder.

Cheap shot? Nah.

Well, when you consider that Fiddle & Faddle were sneaked into the rear door of the White House when the First Lady was absent; a US senator took 12 hours [and 15 lawyers] before reporting a car accident on the Chappiquidic Bridge; a US senator once dared the MSM/press to discover his sexual affair; a US representative was found wallowing [and inebriated] with a DC stripper in a water fountain early one morning; and a president adamently proclaimed that HE DID NOT HAVE SEX WITH THAT WOMAN; yes, it definately would be a feather in a Democrat's hat to now have Sanford's problem!!!!!!!!

He'd get extra credit for the diversity of his dalliance.

I'm still waiting for it end the careers of Newt Gingrich, David Vitter, et al.

Cheap shot? Not in the slightest. As a country, we simply cannot allow the "it's better to be unrelieved scum than a hypocrite" nonsense to continue.

Bob,
Newt's political career ended well before his affair. Newt just doesn't realize it. As for Vitter, that is up to the people in LA. In future in the GOP is limited to say the least.

Kinda puts a new spin on the whole "wise latina" business.

As far as affairs go, this couldn't be more perfect. As JPod over at Contentions notes, it's defining deviancy up.

When the Clinton fiasco happened, a lib pundit remarked that he was disgusted by Clinton's apparent aversion to intimacy. He had to confess that this was all about him and his gratification.

Governor Sanford, on the other hand, seems to love his mistress.

His wife is providing an elegant, strong, beautiful defense of marriage which can only make him love her more, if he still does. And her dignity and intelligence is a strong blow, insofar as their boys are concerned, against the effect of the sins of their Father.

I wish he would have left talk of God's Law out of the conversation. Not because I don't agree with him, but there's no need to drag God down in the mud with you. Unless you're Kind David penning a Psalm, please Leave His Holy name out of it.

In defense of Governor Sanford and Republicans, I just want to say that a Lewinsky just isn't enough for our men; they aim to please!

The most interesting part of emails released to date is this telling bit:

I remember Jenny, or someone close to me, once commenting that while my mom was pleasant and warm it was sad she had never accomplished anything of significance. I replied that they were wrong...

Sanford Adviser: Resignation Not An Option: "...a close adviser to the Republican governor told the Fix that Sanford is not considering such an option. "Mark is firmly focused on reconciling his marriage, and on fulfilling his duties to the people of South Carolina for the remaining eighteen months of his term," said a senior adviser to Sanford who was granted anonymity to speak freely."
So, he's not resigning. Or doing anything beyond saying "I'm sorry" a lot.
Spitzer resigned. Clinton's remaining time in office was crippled - hardly a resume-builder - and McGreevey resigned.

Listing names is fun, isn't it Oldefarte?

Right on. Dem Rep. Loretta Sanchez, of Palyboy Mansion fundraiser fame, has been shacking with her married military escort for years and the media has steadfastly ignored it. It is adultery every bit as irresponsible as Sanford's but they don't care, because she's a Dem slut instead of a fundamentalist Repub. Just google "loretta sanchez scandal" and read all about it.
