It is time to mark the one year anniversary of the AP's groundbreaking report on the state of... everything.
Key quote from that momentous article:
"It is pretty scary," said Charles Truxal, 64, a retired corporate manager in Rochester, Minn. "People are thinking things are going to get better, and they haven't been."
Unfortunately I don't have the kind of access to retired corporate managers in Rochester, Minn. that the AP does, but I imagine that if we were to ask him, Truxal would say the same thing today. Everything is seemingly still spinning out of control. Batten down the hatches, and wait another year for the time when the AP can report that everything is coming back into control.

Ah, but everything IS different, isn't it? Sure, we are facing nuclear threats from Iran, Pakistan and North Korea, but we have such a handsome man in the White House! Who cares about nuclear annihilation when we have a leader possessed of such "swagga?"
America reminds me of a house that is burning down. It was burning down last year, but this year it is all OK, because we have a beautiful new mail box!

"Shortages have sparked riots. In the U.S., rice prices tripled and some stores rationed the staple."
Ah yes, the great rice shortage of 2008... WTF was that all about? People were buying the 50lb bags at Costco like they would never be able to enjoy whatever it is you make with 50 POUNDS of rice again. They were fighting over it. The Asians and the Hispanics were acting out a Kill Bill scene over the last bag of wild rice blend.
The AP needs to spend more time at Costco. (its kinda like Iran around election time when they have sample day)
