Holtz-Eakin is . . . developing a proposal for a new think tank
that he describes as a "Center for American Progress for the
right" - a reference to the liberal think tank that has supplied
staff and policy proposals to the Obama administration and
developed new ways to market its ideas. . . .
The irony, of course, is that the Center for American Progress
itself was developed as a liberal answer to the Heritage
Foundation, the conservative think tank that has been a source of
Republican policy ideas for decades. But Holtz-Eakin says
established think tanks of the right, like Heritage and the
American Enterprise Institute, were "not helpful" during the
McCain campaign because they weren't politically engaged or
innovative in their media strategies.
Or maybe conservative think thanks weren't "helpful" because John
McCain didn't take their advice, because John McCain is
not a conservative. Loser.
Heritage, and especially AEI have come up with many good
proposals. AEI has been particularly good on the financial
crisis. I really see no need for yet another think tank dedicated
to "progress" ...
…we need to be open to new ideas,” I don’t think it’s a fair response to say, “But that’ll never work because your movement isn’t open to new ideas!” Robert Stacy McCain More when I find it. 0 Comments Filed under Conservative Movement Tags: Center For American Progress, Conor Clarke, Conservative Movement, CQ Politics, David Nather, Kevin Drum, Matthew Yglesias,…

Dougie is indeed one of the biggest losers around. His personal
picque at Chrix Cox, based on Cox's perfectly reasonable
insistence that Dougie-boy take a bit of dynamic economics into
his "scoring" of the federal budget, led John McCain --
previously on record as a big Cox fan -- to embarrass himself and
inspire tremendous ill will by blaming Cox for the economic
"crisis" last fall, even though McCain was blaming Cox for NOT
doing something that Cox already was under fire for ALREADY
having done. Go figure. And that was all Dougie-boy's doing.
After helping McCain act like a chicken sans head during the
economic crisis (not just about Cox but in general), which cost
Johnny Mac the election, Mr. H-E's first (or, if not that, the
first BIG) post-election appearance was at AEI, on a panel
discussion, where he was most graciously received. And now he has
the nerve to effectively "dis" AEI by calling for yet another
center-right think tank?!? To his imbecility and personal
pettiness we thus add evidence of lack of due gratitude for
favors granted even while utterly undeserved.
Memo to rock: Make crawl space underneath, into which Mr.
Holtz-Eakin can crawl.
