The initial Republican reactions to the Sotomayor nomination are mostly nocomittal, though they tend to emphasize the Senate's role in the confirmation process. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Sens. Jim DeMint, Richard Shelby, and Saxby Chambliss have already weighed in. So has Sen. Lamar Alexander, chairman of the Senate Republican Conference. Since I don't see his brief statement online, I'll reproduce it here: "It is the Senate's responsibility to give the president's Supreme Court nominee both respectful and rigorous scrutiny. The nominee should neither be pre-confirmed nor pre-judged."

A former judge [who is quite familiar with Sotomayor] on one of the [today's] morning talk shows described her as THE MOST LIBERAL of the potential candidates thought to be in consideration by Obama. This fact should not come as a surprise to conservatives, and instead, be a true reflection of who, and what, Obama is. Sadly, as I've said before, Obama's true self SHOULD HAVE been known to the voting public pre 11/4/08, but they either ignored same, avoided voting, or didn't care enough and voted for him anyway. I sense that now, the American public is awakening to the true Obama and are shocked at that image. The factual information was available, pre-election, about him; and I think that it is sadly ludicrous that now, the average American is having buyer's remorse concerning this president!!!!!!

dr. oldefarte is spot on! those of us who see life as it is, the reason for the thing, and the wisdom of the past will suffer from the mob rule voters who gave us this street hustler, organizer from chicago!this nominee with some top notch schools behind her seems to be one will cloak their personal views as law! her view on this new haven case where a promo exam produced an inordinate amount of white firefighters gaining versus others, read minorities ,shows her interest in disparate impact and reverse discrimination! but tghis millenarian in the white house is the greater threat to the country! he's a slow learner as he just realized that we ahve to pay interest on our debts, which are now unsustainable, ,, mirabile dictu, compound interest! but his self-pitying, self serving, and scolding is just revolting!

Sotomayor already has the confirmation in the bag, since "Republican" Senator Snowe has already endorsed her:

"I commend President Obama for nominating a well-qualified woman." _ Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine.

The Repukelicans will never have the guts to oppose any Obama nominee. Mitch McCONnell, John Corndog, Jim DeMitt, Lamer Alexander, and Saxy Shameless know that the the fix is in. Olympia Snowjob, the other RINOs, and the so-called "conservative" Democrats will vote for all of Obama's nominees.
