Jeb Bush 2012 Bandwagon Begins Rolling?

If Reihan Salam has his way:

The missing candidate, then, is Jeb Bush, a successful two-term governor of a big swing state with sterling conservative credentials, a record of appealing to Latino voters, and the raw brainpower and rhetorical skill to match Barack Obama. . . [F]or Republicans there really is no better candidate.

Short of your own column in the New York Times or a regular stint on the Jim Lehrer show, there is nothing like being published by Tina Brown's Daily Beast to certify your status as one of The Republicans Who Really Matter.

Read my lips: NO MORE BUSHES!

Oh God, Please no. Third time is not a charm.

Jeb - Well, I guess he'd have to try hard to be worse than his brother...

Starbase28| 5.20.09 @ 1:20PM

Jeb is ok but I think Newt is better!

jim rice| 5.20.09 @ 1:26PM

Praise you, Mr. McCain... where were you in 2004? ;)

"sterling conservative credentials"
I stopped reading right there.

The "leaders"(?) of the GOP since 02 have been and are a bunch of 75 IQ morons. The Bush Clan has given us 2 liberal liars who inturn have given us Bill and O with their terrible liberal/progressive/collectivist programs. That anyone who claims to be a Republican would even mention another man from this clan bespeaks their total lack of competence. Tell 'em to get their collectivist heads out of their a**es! I want to swear@!?!!!%

NavyBrat| 5.20.09 @ 2:39PM

The Bush family is played out. We need new blood in this party. There is too much polarization attached to the Bush name. Want a surefire way to loose in the next election, run someone with the last name Bush.

Red Phillips| 5.20.09 @ 2:41PM

Ron Paul 2012! Until another credible candidate who is a non-interventionist constitutionalist who can appeal to both rightists and libertarians appears on the scene Ron Paul is the default candidate of those of us who are not mainstreamers. Keep up the exercise and stay healthy Dr. Paul. Your country needs you.

That said, I hate to condemn Jeb based on his DNA alone, and I do think he is more sincerely conservative (by mainstream standards) than either his father or brother, but it is naive to believe he is anything other than marginally more conservative and less pragmatic than either of them. He is a product of the same system. In fact I am skeptical of all of these “listening tour” guys. That has trying to put a pretty face on selling out written all over it.

Hawkhealer| 5.20.09 @ 3:34PM

No matter how you try to paint him he is still a Bush and after the last two I cannot trust another one. We have plenty of talented Conservatives without rolling the dice on another Bush.

Richard Baker| 5.20.09 @ 3:59PM

The Father and the two sons have been successful in politics and are decent men who'd probably make great next-door neighbors. That said, the country has had enough of Kennedy, Bush, Rockefeller, and other political families. There are better out there and the country need re-invigoration.

Daisy| 5.20.09 @ 6:17PM

What arrogance! Must be that Yankee blue blood coursing through their veins. NO MORE BUSHES EVER!!

Gabe| 5.20.09 @ 7:14PM

You're so insecure. Why sour grapes all the time about other, more successful writers?

…he’ll not have staying power.  I can’t see him being more than a fringe candidate.  Former Governor of Florida Jeb Bush is a great candidate – if his name was not Bush.  But he has some support.  He may be a future candidate, if the American people decide by 2016 or 2020 then Jeb Bush might be a winner.  But not now.  Maybe George P. Bush after two terms as Governor of Florida in say 2032!…
