Republicans have succeeded in intimidating Harry Reid into
accepting the absurd, abolutely ludicrous notion that 224
detainees cannot safely be housed in the United States, a nation
that successfully manages to incarcerate more people than any
other country in the world.
Republicans' public fearful fretting about detainees being
brought to the states is a shameless political stunt offered in
considerable bad faith. The shame is that Democrats continue to
have leaders in Congress who are easily manipulated by shallow
hacks in search of the next cheap political point.
We are becoming a nation of spineless non-persons, and it's a
goddamn shame.

Maybe the evil Booosh and Cheney weren't that far off, after all,
eh Mr. President?
Let's see, now:
Stop military tribunals for detainees, no start them back up
again.
The troop surge in Iraq didn't work, but let's apply that
strategy to Afghanistan.
Stop wire taps, no, maybe not.
Close Gitmo, no better not do that. What ever would we do with
the suspected terrorists?
Running the country is not nearly as easy as the previous 43
presidents made it look, is it Obama?

Two men are responsible for this: Vice-President Dick Cheney and
Senator James Webb.
They may be at odds with one another; they may even dislike one
another, but they are patriots first and always. I’d trust the
Country in the hands of either one of them.
President Obama finds himself in this prone position because 1)
he’s a theoretician, first and always, and, 2) his following on
this issue is an influential force, one he doesn’t want arraying
and petrifying against him.
His callow understanding of war and terrorism led him to behave
precipitously, hence his Executive Order “closing” Gitmo. He
didn’t align himself with knowledgeable, patriotic, bipartisan
men. He aligned himself with woolly headed ideologues who
wouldn’t know the first thing about dealing with issues outside
of their theories. They're perfumed and protected, which accounts
for the luxury of theorizing. They’re poseurs when measured
against men like Cheney and Webb.
Here’s what our Director
of the FBI said concerning the transfer/release of detainees
to the U.S.:
***Pressed about whether detainees would pose a risk if held in a
maximum security prison, such as Colorado's Supermax, Mueller
said he doubts anyone sent there could escape. But he added, "In
gang activity around the country, using it as an analogy, there
are individuals in our prisons today who operate their gangs from
inside the walls of prison. So while there may not be the
opportunity to escape, there may still be the risk."
Mueller also said any detainees released into the U.S. by judges
who deem them no longer dangerous would very likely be subjected
to FBI surveillance.
"To the extent that persons who have some background in either
supporting, facilitating, or training with terrorists, it would
present a concern to which we would maximize our efforts to
minimize and mitigate that concern, whether it be by surveillance
or wires [wiretaps] or other efforts to assure that we have
minimized that concern."
Mueller's comments differed from the assurances given to the same
committee last week by Attorney General Eric Holder. He said no
terrorists would ever be released into the U.S.***
Obama needs (not wants, needs!) to cut Vice-President Cheney off
at the pass. Hence, this attempt at upstaging.
My plea to Cheney is to continue doing what he’s doing, and
continue priming his daughter for same. He has been in government
for how many years now? How many years of knowledge does he have?
50? It’s vast. He worked with the first President Bush who was
head of the CIA.
This administration cannot be trusted on this issue because they
politicized it from day one.
May VP Cheney's health hold and his tribe increase.
