Being a father of six, I'm a firm believer in sex-ed of the Old
School variety. Our daughters were taught from an early age that
boys have cooties. Our sons, of course, did not
need to be told that girls are icky. California
can't leave well enough alone:
The Alameda Unified School District announced it was considering
a supplemental curriculum to eradicate "homophobia" in
kindergarten children.
Lost in the shuffle of bullying school boards and angry parents
whose rights have been violated is the concept of childhood
innocence. It's something worth preserving. Kindergarteners
shouldn't have sexuality pushed on them, even in the form of good
old plain-vanilla heterosexuality; homosexuality wouldn't enter
the mind of an elementary school age child unless it was shoved
in his face. And exposing children to transsexuality and other
permutations beyond that is the equivalent of child abuse. Why is
this something their innocent, developing minds and imaginations
need to confront? This is clearly not being done for the benefit
of the children.
One more reason to leave California if your still not convinced.
Is anyone keeping a list?
Come to Texas, my hometown just had a field day that taught grade
schoolers handgun safety, WITH REAL GUNS! We have free speech
too, they can call Californians fags if they want to.

all sexuality is acceptable now-- which means it has become
routine and predictable.

You've conflated "don't beat up people that you don't like" with
"this is how to have gay sex". Period. Until you explain your
switcharoo, this entire article, and all the outrage, comes
across as one more thinly veiled rant as "teh gays."
The article says nothing about sexual education - it's about
combating irrational attitudes towards homosexuals. Perhaps RSM
(and Aaron) should take a class or two?
The article linked to refers to a "supplemental curriculum to
eradicate 'homophobia' in kindergarten children." Which has to
mean a curriculum - deliberate, planned instruction - on the
acceptability of homosexuality. In order teach why homosexuality
is acceptable, teachers will have to cover what homosexuality is.
Won't they?
Angel| 5.19.09 @ 1:06PM
Exactly, RSM. We knew Prop. 8 wasn't really about gay marriage.
Mainstreaming homosexual behavior through California public
schools is one of the main reasons why Proposition 8 passed.
Another reason was the possibility that religious speech would be
considered hate speech. Liberals are fully aware of this, and are
ready to implement the law of unintended consequences.
Ellis Wyatt| 5.19.09 @ 2:54PM
Who in their right mind would bring up such a lifestyle choice to
kids that don't even know what normal sex is? Whether or not
someone believes homosexuality is acceptable is better discussed
in the home with a parent. My guess is the school curriculum will
only present a one sided argument telling kids it is acceptable
behavior. Yet another reason my kids do not attend government
schools.
Sometimes when two men love each other, or just happen to be at
the same rest stop for 5 minutes, they put their dingalings in
each other's doody-holes.
hmm_contrib| 5.19.09 @ 3:40PM
Little kids see mommies and daddies, meaning they know that men
and women marry and love each other. Does that mean they "know
what heterosexual sex is"? Do Sunday school classes that teach
about the importance of family and marriage teach heterosexual
sex education? No, kids just know that opposite sex couples
exist.
All anti-homophobia campaigns do is acknowledge the existence of
same-sex couples and individuals interested in the same and teach
that they shouldn't be beaten, bullied, or killed. The reason
RSM, Aaron, etc keep making the jump to "THEY'RE GONNA TEACH SEX"
is, well, take it away Jim Treacher: "Sometimes when two men love
each other, or just happen to be at the same rest stop for 5
minutes, they put their dingalings in each other's doody-holes."
The only people focusing on sex when it comes to gay people are
conservatives. There is more to gay people than gay sex, but that
seems to be all the people here see and talk about. Perhaps if
you stop thinking/talking about it so much it won't be part of
the debate.
Ellis, if you want to believe that orientation is a choice, it's
your right to remain ignorant, but your religious beliefs can't
be used to justify violence. We can't allow it when Muslims want
to honor kill women for getting an education, and we can't allow
it here. We have to teach kids equality and the right to be free
from violence. Why you see that as a threat is beyond me. I guess
"not getting beat up" is another "special right."
Bob| 5.19.09 @ 4:47PM
The fact that homosexuality NOW has less of a stigma than
previously means that it should be introduced to schoolchildren
as a 'viable alternative lifestyle'. But, come on, aren't
pedephiles people too. Just because they are currently looked
down upon by society does not mean their 'lifestyle' is any less
valid. So let's introduce elementary school children to the idea
of forever tolerating pedephilia too because otherwise they will
grow up to become pedephiliaphobes.
Ellis Wyatt| 5.19.09 @ 4:57PM
hmm - Nobody is advocating violence against anyone. If you get
beaten up there are laws already in place in society to deal with
the crime - try battery for example. I did not mention any
religious beliefs. And yes, homosexuality is a lifestyle choice
and you are free to make it, I don't care. Just don't have a
school tell my kids it is acceptable behavior, that is for our
family to decide. I probably would not have responded to your
opinion, but I am curious how you could read anything I wrote
above and make the leap to me advocating violence against anyone?
Smitty| 5.19.09 @ 7:23PM
What about the Christian college kids who were beaten up by gays
in San Francisco? All these kids were doing was sharing God's
Word--don't they have a 'special right' not to be beaten up for
their beliefs?
Smitty| 5.19.09 @ 7:26PM

Smitty, you make it so easy. Yes, those religious students
(asuming they're not apocryphal) ARE PROTECTED by hate crimes
law. Religion is one of the protected classes - if someone beats
up a Christian because he is Christian, he is protected. And
being a Christian is a lifestyle choice. Do you want to remove
protection for religions, too?
Now all you have to do is compare the stats: how many Christians
are attacked in this country because they are Christian? How many
gays are attacked because they are gay? Which ones therefore
could use a little help in classtime for kids telling them its
bad to play smear the queer?
And Angel, you still didn't explain how "don't attack people you
don't like or are different from" is "gay education." You still
haven't proven the connection. Besides in your own head, I guess.
