Specter just said according to his agreement with Harry Reid, he'll keep all of his committee assignments as if he were elected as a Democrat in 1980.

What an idiot Specter must be. He makes a deal with Reid and doesn't see that he is being used for 2yrs max to push a far left agenda at breakneck speed? He has to see money in this for himself as well...no one who has been in politics as long as he has can be that naive.

Pete --

Did you ever consider for one second that YOU might be the one who is naive?

Specter has been in the game a long time. I'd say he knows what he's doing.

I doubt very much that "money" is at issue. Specter wants to caucus with senators who share some of his views. The Republicans have moved so far to the right in the past few decades they've lost EVERY person they had in Congress from the Northeast.

You should go back and look at some electoral maps from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The Republicans used to carry most districts up there.

You'll be lucky if your party makes any gains in the midterms at this rate.

I'm a Democrat, of course, and I'm delighted to see the Republicans painting themselves into a corner. But in the end, we're a two party country; it's good to have vigorous opposition. I don't see the Republicans showing that next time around.
