Why bother to ask beauty pageant contestants their views on same-sex marriage if there is only one acceptable answer? And the Miss USA contestant who raised Perez Hilton's hackles offered only a very mild, apologetic, and almost equivocal defense of traditional marriage. If you want to treat people who believe that marriage is between a man and a woman -- what marriage has always meant in our society -- the same way we treat opponents of interracial marriage, you have to try to marginalize a large group of religious believers, many of whom would not otherwise particuarly care about this issue.

This courageous young woman's opinion is the same as Obama's; yet it cost her the Miss USA title. If the government starts enforcing gay marriage, I believe the gay community will start a witch hunt against Christians who disagree with them. Payback is coming.

Well, but.... The problem for Miss California USA Carrie Prejean is that she really means what she says about believing only in traditional man-woman marriage but Obama is fudging for political advantage -- in that he knows he'd lose support for going so far currently as to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about how much he favors government-created "gay marriage."

And another thing.... One of your contributors only last week commented that "gay marriage" causes no harm to anyone at all. Hasn't Miss Prejean already been harmed by "gay marriage"?

Bravo Carrie Prejean for standing up for what you believe is right. What a beautiful, heroic young woman who really "spoke truth to power!"

I think it's awful to be questioned and not be able to give your honest opinion without any repercussions. Why ask the question if you aren't suppose to give an opinionated answer. Everyone is entitled to freedom of speech or is this being taken from Americans as well. America is made of all kinds of people from all faith's and walks of life. Let's face it we all have different opinions and view's in life if we didn't the world would be dull and quite boring without anything to debate.

It is a crying shame that Miss California is being vilified and crucified for honestly answering a question with only her OPINION, INSTEAD of lying and cheating by telling the judges what she thought they wanted to hear.

We used to be americans that believed we all had the right to a peaceful opinion, but now we are a bunch of bigots on both sides insisting it is better to lie, and manipulate just to scare others into doing the same thing.

Miss California did not perpetrate a hate crime for God's sake, she answered a question that she was ASKED TO GIVE, and then gave AN HONEST ANSWER! She even apologized for her upbringing. It is not like she was out there preaching hate either. She was prodded to give an answer she was obviously uncomfortable with, and now she suffers mercilessly for it.

I do have to ask where are the good people of the homosexual community speaking out against the same atrocities being heaped upon Miss California that gays and lesbians suffer with daily?!?! I guess it is ok to do it to others just because it happens to you. That will fix the problem! And then the homosexual community wonders why they are not liked by some people. It is not because you are gay, it is because you keep rubbing people the wrong way, and attacking other people for the way they think while asking others not to do it to you.

I will never understand the logic of that.

I do not know what it is going to take for people to wake up, but I fear it will not be pretty
