Drudge linked a report from the NBC affiliate in DC which told the story of some too-polite "protesters":
It was a great idea, really. Take a million tea bags and dump them in Lafayette Park to protest government spending. Hip, hip, hoo-ray!
But a funny thing happened en route to a visually pleasing Tax Day protest. The National Park Service said the tea party protesters didn't have the proper permit to dump their bags.
So instead of a raucous visual demonstration, all that was left were images of the tea party packing up their boxes of tea on a cold, soggy day in D.C.
Doh!
You've got to be kidding -- these supposedly indignant taxpayers don't follow through on their plans because of a permit?! I don't think that was an issue at Boston Harbor...
Do they issue permits to everyone who trashes the National Mall every Fourth of July?
CH| 4.15.09 @ 7:56PM
These are the right wing extremists who constitute a security threat to the U.S. right now--per Janet Napolitano. That park would have been torn to shreds has this been a liberal protest.

We obey the law, unlike you terroristic, fascist liberal morons.

In the interest of total fairness, allow me to suck one up for the liberal team here and say the following:
Jharp -- don't be a jerk.
I can't take another eight years of libs and conversatives screaming at each other. All right? You don't call people cowards -- that's rude, chief. And we're never going to stop this totally ridiculous partisan problem by being rude to the other side.
Obama Drools| 4.15.09 @ 8:14PM
BAN THE TROLL HARP!!! BAN THE TROLL HARP!!! BAN THE TROLL HARP!!!
Nope| 4.15.09 @ 8:15PM

Nope| 4.15.09 @ 8:20PM
Yup. You win, you clever rascal, you You're a complete unredeemable jerk. Plus, no one will ever get to have an adult political conversation ever again. Fan-f*cking-tastic.
MT| 4.15.09 @ 8:24PM
Jharp threw the F bomb--no wonder this LIBERAL TROLL GETS HIS POSTS ERASED!! Loser.
DaveinPhoenix| 4.15.09 @ 9:48PM
The fact that a government requires a permit for dumping these tea bags only proves the point: a government out of control which injects itself into all aspects of the lives of it's citizens.
And all attempts to rationalize the outrage of requiring a permit for this is lost when the cleanup of hundreds of tons of debris after the the inauguration of President Pantywaste is considered. Show us the permit for that, Mr. President. We want to see it !!
Nope| 4.15.09 @ 9:49PM
Uh, that was me, not jharp. And really? Using a bleeped out f*ck is worse than what you're doing?
I have to hand it to you, my man -- you are an intriguing combination of rude, angry, and yet easily offended.
Nope| 4.15.09 @ 9:54PM
And yeah, we should just be able to dump a million tea bags or an equivalent amount of stuff wherever we want to -- no restrictions. Sounds like a super great idea for a society. Man, what fun this brave new watered-down faux Ayn Rand lifestyle will be.*
*Yup. I'm pretty sure they got the proper permits and clean up crews for the Presidential Inauguration before it happened. Just a random guess on my part.
...I've got to stop reading this website; you guys are kind of literally killing me.
MarkJ| 4.15.09 @ 10:01PM
Nope,
We don't need to literally kill you; you're doing a fine job doing it to yourself.
American Sharecropper| 4.15.09 @ 10:04PM
Today I had the distinct pleasure of listening to David Nolan (founder of the Libertarian party). He re-enforced my belief that partisan politics are poisoning us as a society. I long since dismissed the notion that there was any significant difference between the two parties, Bush laid the groundwork for Obama's fascist administration. We spend too much time blaming "the other side" and voting for "the lesser of two evils" -- I refuse to vote for evil, even if it's less than the perceived alternative. The Republicrats have had us bickering over the same, predictable straw-man arguments for generations while the top tier elitists are quite unified -- more unified than they would like you to know.
It's time to take a long, hard look at the disparity between the Constitutional government of our founding fathers and the modern incarnation of the federal government.
They gave us a precious gift....
Angel| 4.15.09 @ 10:56PM
Progressivism is the enemy and it infects both parties. However, I think the arrogant Obama is by far the most dangerous president of all. His liberal followers are Obama bootlickers, and there's not one democrat who will stand up to his liberal fascism. Democrats are ALL leftists now.
lynnr| 4.15.09 @ 10:58PM
Nope/jharp throws F-bombs. Ban his butt!
Craig Meister| 4.16.09 @ 12:24AM
Yeah, like the 500 people who showed up were gonna trash the place.....being as 200 of them were liberal bloggers, another 100 were media and the other 200 were probably paid by the lobbyists sponsoring the thing.......
make me laugh more, please....
Jeremiah| 4.16.09 @ 12:53AM
Many thousands of ordinary Americans stood up today to protest Obama's liberal fascism. GO TEA PARTIES!!
Syntax| 4.16.09 @ 1:43AM
The official count so far is up to like 36,000 for all these tea parties across the country. Hardly enough votes to win elections so this is the joke it was made out to be. Problem is, how many were the so-called Conservatives and how many were Libertarians who came up with these tea party ideas before it was hijacked by Dick Armey and his lobbyist firm that lobbied TARP money for the banks his firm represents, Newt Gingrich and his lobbyist firm that lobbied for companies that avoid paying taxes by hiding tax money in Caymen accounts, Neil Cavuto and Fox News? Grassroots my patootie! The Libertarians made it a grassroots movement before it was hijacked by special interests, lobbyists and the easily led.
Problem is these so-called Conservatives have spent the last few years attacking and hate-spewing against anybody and everybody who dared to have a different point of view then they had. Kim Jong Ill doesn't appreciate a different point of view neither but hey, they're not socialists. They have lashed out against all those who think differently to the point where they have alienated themselves down to a small smoldering nub. There must be like 900,000,000,000,000 liberals in the world by now since if you have a different point of view from these few, you automatically get labeled liberal and then they spew out the most immature, school-yard bully childishness imaginable. Too stupid to realize that America has had their share of this thumb-sucking nonsense and has proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt in the past two election cycles. You are hereby rejected...elections matter!
Republicans need to dump these people and fast or they will further alienate themselves with these archaic school-yard bullies and risk more loss of seats and governorships. They are an insignificant minority and their 30,000 plus tea parties show that there is no chance in hell that they're enough votes to win elections.

Way back in the early 1770's the colonists also tried to lawfully and peacefully protest the King's abuse of power. the then government did the same thing that our government is doing today. They put up roadblocks to the peaceful assembly of people to redress their grivences.
This attempt at stopping the people was met with an ever increasing tit for tat by the English crown and the general population. Until the rage and fury were unleasehed in Concord.
Let us hope that history does not repeat itself and that our government is smart enough to not try to stop the peaceful prtest of its citizens. The evidence so far is that they are following the same playbook that the King of England followed. which does not bode well for them.
Jeremiah| 4.16.09 @ 2:52AM
Syntax, the hatred and vicious BusHitler name calling came from YOU fascist liberals the last eight years, liar. Your liberal rage for all that President Bush was doing to protect our country was everywhere. Many of your protests were violent and caused the destruction of public and private property. Your ACORN brownshirts have stolen numerous elections and are being used to intimidate private citizens. Your fascist democrat party is so corrupted by liars, cheats and thieves that Obama still can't put his nominees in place. We know who the real fascists are, and we know who the traitors are: You leftist lying thugs.
lynnrockets| 4.16.09 @ 3:13AM
If there is violence, it won't be from us--it will be from the ACORN brownshirt thugs. Leftists are the ones who use violence to get what they want.
