I'm willing to bet our friend Quin Hillyer will have something piquant to say about the latest reported peregrination of former McCain campaign economic adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin:

Though economist Douglas Holtz-Eakin spent the 2008 presidential campaign advising Sen. John McCain to defend the Bush-era tax cuts, he now thinks they should be allowed to expire on Dec. 31, 2010 due to "the prospect of an Argentina-style fiscal meltdown." Said Holtz-Eakin: "If you ask: 'Who pays the taxes?', it's the first step toward not having the answer be: 'Our kids.'"

I'm told that in Louisiana, "piquant" is a synonym for "shockingly profane." Perhaps Quin can clear up this matter of regional dialect.

Mr. H-E is wholly unreliable. I'll leave more picquant expressions to others. But "piquant" isn't really shockingly profane; it's more in the realm of merely naughty in a clever way.
Meanwhile, though, I'll hand it to the GOOD McCain; You, sire, made me reach for my dictionary to be sure I knew the meaning of "peregrination." :)

Holtz-Eakin has degrees in economics and mathematics and a PhD from Princeton. He was the chief economist for George Bush and ran the Congressional Budget Office. He was not always comfortable maintaining the company line with McCain because he is highly educated and knows better. Now that he isn't on that team, he can pay attention to what is correct.

I would challenge RSM and Quin to match Holtz-Eakin in the field of economics. They show exactly what's wrong with people on the far right, they demean knowledge, education, and analytical/data oriented conclusions and continue to support myths like lower taxes being stimulative to economic growth. The analytics/data do not support those types of conclusions. Even the Heritage Foundation won't go that far (however they do have bloggers that repeat the lie). It is time that the country is run on solid analysis rather than faulty ideologies.

The Obama budget is too large -- everyone knows that. However, recommending actions that will make the debt even larger, like not rescinding the tax cuts, are just plain dumb. Remember we had tax increases under Clinton and reduced the debt more than Reagan or Bush.

And you wonder why the number of Republican voters is lower than at any time in the last 30 years? And you wonder why people are leaving the Republican party in droves and becoming independents? Think, people.

I just wanted to show one of the charts from the Heritage Foundation to support my point:

Remember that this organization leans right, not left.

Godless heathen commies really should go back to their echo chambers leave serious discussion to grown-ups. Go back to the public-school educated, brilliant Obamunist revolutionaries so erudite and wise that they elected a doper, illegal alien, Kenyan/Indonesian, madrassa-educated communist revolutionary, friend of racists, bombers and cop-killers.

MT| 4.10.09 @ 5:46PM

Yes, Bob--we believe you, Bob. Thank you, Bob--is there anything else, Bob? Bob's comments are always predictable, always robotic. Go away, dude--you're a joke.

Bob| 4.10.09 @ 5:57PM

Thank you, MT, for your data filled commentary. Keep it up, you make my point. There is no intelligence left on the extreme right.

Alan Brooks| 4.10.09 @ 10:50PM

Bob,
i keep telling you that rightists-- are SUPPOSED to be mean; as libs-- and centrists-- are supposed to be squishy.

and Newt says "we will colonize space, and balance the budget, and colonize space, and promote entrepreneurship, and colonize space..."

Nick| 4.11.09 @ 1:05AM

I'm glad someone is at least pointing this out. Thank god.

Marc Jeric| 4.11.09 @ 7:59AM

Kennedy tax cuts = 8 years of economic boom;
Reagan tax cuts = 20 years of economic boom. And our resident creep Bob says the opposite!
Why not 100% tax on everything if high taxes are good for economy? Like the defunct USSR or Cuba, or North Korea?

Bob| 4.11.09 @ 8:38AM

Marc, it would be nice if you used facts rather than myth. Here is a chart of GDP growth over the years:

http://www.data360.org/dsg.aspx?Data_Set_Group_Id=230

You'll notice that the greatest growth came in Clinton's term. Furthermore, the growth rate before Reagan and after Reagan are approximately the same.

Perhaps you were talking about the stock market:

http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/charts/chartdl.aspx?Symbol=$indu&CP=0&PT=11

Whoops! Much more growth under the tax increases of Clinton. Where's the economic growth under the tax cuts of Bush? You conveniently left that out.

And then there is the immoral debt left by Reagan and Bush:

http://zfacts.com/p/318.html

Marc, facts are funny things. Perhaps you can show me a normalized chart (that takes out things like inflation which isn't real growth), instead of being so vapid. Again, you prove my point that there is no intelligence left on the extreme right.

That said, I have also railed against the debt that Obama has in his budget as any fiscal conservative would do. A true fiscal conservative wouldn't care whether it is Reagan or Obama -- if they create huge amounts of debt it's a problem.

By the way, where do you get your data, anyway?

Ran| 4.11.09 @ 11:43PM

RSM, thanks.

Alan B.
Man, has it occurred to you that space has already colonized Newt? ewt? ewt? wt? Just askin'.

Marc Jeric| 4.12.09 @ 10:33AM

"By the way, where do you get your data, anyway? "
Didn't get it from my butt, like you did, blowbob!
You are a disgrace for all to see and you don't belong to this site. Enough said? Now F.uck off.

Ran| 4.12.09 @ 10:45AM

Marc, dude... B'ob is just sooo much more intelligent than anyone here that we are (sigh) simply not worthy to even read his posts, let alone respond. I'm not, and for quite some time, I haven't.

That... and if one feeds a troll, it will return.

Bob| 4.12.09 @ 12:15PM

Marc, you do show your true colors. You consider the Heritage Foundation an improper place to get data? By the way, who does belong to this site?

Again, both you and Ran show why extreme right Republicans, and their lack of intellect and analytical ability, are in so much trouble right now. If you have an objective response, I'd like to hear it.

Jeremy Grant| 4.13.09 @ 11:07AM

Curious if Mr. McCain also finds Ben Stein excreable. Ben has spoken against the Bush tax cuts specifically, and supply-side economics generally.
