Look Who's Laughing Now

Minnesotans may soon welcome Al Franken as their Senator according to this piece by Scott Johnson (of Power Line) at National Review.  The Franken/Coleman debacle has been playing out in trial for the last several weeks. The case is technically still pending with the panel judges, but Johnson thinks it's in the bag for the comedian.  He also thinks while Franken's politics are as ugly as he is unfunny, he didn't steal the election, he just outsmarted his opponent. I'm not sure I completely agree with him--at least, don't want to--but it looks like he's followed it much closer than I have, has been in touch with more contacts on the ground there, and makes a strong case to that end.

Those who postulate Democratic shenanigans as the cause of Coleman's difficulties fail to reckon with the December 18 decision of the Minnesota Supreme Court on the inclusion of previously rejected absentee ballots in the recount. The Minnesota Supreme Court held that absentee ballots identified by local officials during the recount as wrongly rejected should be included in the recount subject to agreement of the parties (and also subject to the possibility of sanctions on the parties' lawyers for withholding agreement in bad faith).

It's worth a read, though it may depress--as much as inform--you.  I guess I'll have to eat my words.

You've got to beat ACORN before the election or it's already in the bag. The democrat party--home of cheats and thieves. Liars, too.

Steve Pendergast| 4.8.09 @ 10:06PM

Right...acorn...and don't forget all the other co-conspirators, complicit 4th estaters, communist fellow-travelers.

Rather than paranoid bloviations Heather, why don't you focus on policy. From all accounts the election and post election in Minnesota has been a model of fairness (according to Republicans in the state). Your wild-eyed ravings only stir up the unbalanced and uninformed.

Daphne| 4.8.09 @ 10:11PM

Sure, Stevie--just like your Obumbler didn't 'bow' to the Saudi King. LOL!! Obama bowed so low he could have kissed the King's azz! Liar.

MT| 4.8.09 @ 10:15PM

Yeah, right; and ACORN is just a gentle group of do-gooders helping old ladies cross the street. You're a bunch of lying fascist thugs. We've got to stop you thieves BEFORE you steal the election.

Legal Eagle| 4.8.09 @ 10:26PM

This was a done-deal months before the election. Democrats have learned to rig the system in close elections--we'd better get on them before 2010. They've included billions in the budget for ACORN and have made plans for ACORN to run the next census. Fascists.

Palin For President 2012!!| 4.8.09 @ 10:38PM

Policy? Policy is irrelevant if democrats are stealing all of the elections.

Paulie| 4.8.09 @ 10:40PM

Unbalanced and uninformed--sounds like Al Frankenstein; only he's the monster, too. Doesn't pay his taxes, either, like all democrat politicians. Corrupt clown.

Steve Pendergast| 4.8.09 @ 10:53PM

I should have known that this site was a hotbed for Palinists. Can she really serve two "sovereign" countries--and you betcha she'll protect us from Kim il Sung.

BTW Legal--you may want to examine your use of the word fascist. Fascism (as defined by Mussolini) is when corporate leaders sit down at the same table with politicians to make policy. That term best applies to the Bush years--and we all know where that got us---a depression--two wars and trillion dollar deficits.

Steve Pendergast| 4.8.09 @ 10:58PM

With regard to the Saudi's the Bush family has been kissing their respective asses for years--remember "Bandar Bush?" He bought W's failing business at well above value--which was nearly zero. If you ever watch Frontline as opposed to Faux News, you might also find Bandar in the center of a major weapons bribery and corruption scheme. The Bush family has certainly been keeping great connections--ever since Prescott bent knee to the third reich.

Rose| 4.9.09 @ 1:32AM

jharp gets around--who knew?

CH| 4.9.09 @ 1:36AM

Obama's in office now, and is he ever a bootlicker. To the Saudi King, no less!! That photo of Obama bending over to kiss the King's ring (or something), is gonna follow him around forever. Chicago rube. Not so smart afterall--who started that BS lie?

Larry| 4.9.09 @ 1:40AM

Fascism/communism--pick your ism; both are corrupt and tyrannical. Democrat thugs steal elections--Obama worked for ACORN many years ago, he's just part of the corruption. President Azz Kisser. Azz Kisser in Chief. lol

John| 4.9.09 @ 10:22AM

When Scott Johnson says he didn't steal the election then he didn't steal the election. Johnson practises law in MN and knows the attempts by extremists to smear the MN judiciary are counterproductive and just flat wrong. He also understands this is now starting to hurt the GOP in MN which is why he and others on the right are now starting to counsel Coleman to pull the plug. Franken has won, with every recount he picks up more votes, there's not going to be another election, Coleman and the Republican party look like sore loosers taking refuge in sleazy political and obstructionist maneuvers, so get it over with. And none of it has anything to do with Acorn.

Steve Pendergast| 4.9.09 @ 11:10AM

Well Larry how about Solipsism then. Oh that might not work--it presumes you have a mind.

Steve Pendergast| 4.9.09 @ 11:36AM

Im sorry about arguing with all of you. I've been going through some rough times. My wife left me, because she caught me with another man. I lost my job at McDonald's. I'm thinking of moving to Minnesota to be with Al.

MT| 4.9.09 @ 11:53AM

Somehow it doesn't surprise me--the other guy is probably a tranny.

Heather| 4.9.09 @ 11:56AM

'Sore loosers'--another publik skool educated liberal moron. The theft of Coleman's senate seat has everything to do with ACORN. We gotta stop these thieving goons BEFORE the election.

heather| 4.9.09 @ 2:31PM

I must confess I am a man though confused about my sexual identity. Acorn is just one of the many nuts that I am pelted with regularly and as I am a true dittohead and NRA brownshirt--I like to return fire. I really do like the feel of a rifle in my hands and elsewhere (as long as the safety's on).

MT| 4.9.09 @ 2:39PM

As a life long John Bircher I am always looking under the rug and behind my back for commies. Especially, gay, faggot, godless types who diss Rush Limbaugh.
The reason I use initials as my moniker is that I am afraid that these commie lovin sombitches will come after me. Y'know they're already putting digital label codes on the back of stop signs so their secret army can quickly take power.

Interloper| 4.9.09 @ 4:54PM

Obummer has no nuts--cause he was seen bending over kissin' the nuts of the Saudi King. Obummer's only nuts are ACORNs. Weak, wimpy liberal--there's no other kind.
