The Red Envelope Project

Unfortunately, Barack Obama is living up to his promise to eliminate protections for the unborn.  Without doubt the result will be more dead babies.  Abortion is one of those tough issues that most politicians would prefer to dodge, but it is too important to sidestep.  Frankly, I don't understand how one can argue that people have a right to have sex with whomever they choose whenever they choose, and that the same people have no responsibility for the consequences of choosing to have sex, especially when that consequence is a life.  With freedom must come responsibility.

Some pro-life activists are promoting "the red envelope project," urging people to mail empty red envelopes to the White House on March 31, with the back inscribed:

This envelope represents one child who died in abortion. It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world. Responsibility begins with conception.

It's a thoughtful protest, highlighting the reality of abortion:  the death of innocent life.

There is no such thing as an "accidental pregnancy."

So much wasted potential. Heartbreaking.

The world would be a better place if the government or each particular state would make it much easier to addopt. There are enough good people in the USA that want despratley to have a family but cant because its so stinking hard to addopt.

this is for Our President I am a 20 year old female and I and my family are against abortion becasue as soon as a woman consives its a human being and if the female is willing to have sex and gets pregnant she needs to pay the consequenses just because she doesnt want the child doesnt mean she has the right to abort the baby u see she shouldnt be able to choose if the baby lives or dies the baby deserves to live. I mean the baby didnt tell her to go have sex and knowing there is a chance at getting pregnant she shouldnt go sex with someone because if she does there is that chance she will get pregnant and then she needs to pay the consequence there are so many people out here who cant have kids that will be willing to adopt the child. but just becasue a woman doesnt want to be pregnant or have a child doesnt give her a right to abort the baby and if the government will not stand against abortion then what has this country came to because this county was supposed to be free but the governemnt has taken so much away and now the government wants to allow abortion to be legal. I mean if say ur wife was pregnant or even your girlfriend and they aborted ur child how would u feel put ur self in this little childs place think if u were that child would u want to be killed? abortion even in say the first day u find out is killing of the child its killing a human being. the bible says thou shall not kill well if obama is really a christian then he needs to obey the bible and GOD and the ten commandments and if he is not a christian then i pray that he will get saved and open his eye and not pass this abortion bill keep abortion illegal and please know i am praying for u obama and your family but would also like u to pray on this and do research about abortion and the developing child . Please for the sake of the unborn child who deserves a chance at life before u make this decision research and pray and think about if it was u or your own child how would u feel?

I am a social worker for the state. I think it is good to support something that you believe in, but in the same aspect when people are asking the president to stop having abortions or make it illegal to have abortions. Then would you please spread the word to those same people to sign up to adopt the thousands of children that are being passed through the system, or at least become a foster parent? I work with children that have been sexually molested by their father and become pregnant with their father’s child. I have dealt with girls who have been impregnated by their father and try to give themselves abortion due to they do not want to have a child that reminds them everyday of the bad things their father did to them or explain to their child that they are a product of their father molesting them. I ask you to make a change and ask people to please start adopting children that are in the system or become a foster parent before we go and ask the president to stop abortions. Now I am not saying that abortions are right but I do not want women out their putting themselves in harm or endangering themselves by trying to give themselves abortions. I am not writing you to complain or say you are doing a bad thing I just want you to understand the other side of why people have abortions or why the president has not signed the bill to have abortions illegal. Also I know you could get the word out to make a stand and start asking people adopt children who are in the system or become a foster parent. When you send that red letter to the president, just keep in mind of all the children who are waiting to have a parent adopt them or be a foster parent to them. Just something to keep in mind.

I pray to god that people will also make a stand and start adopting children who were not aborted and are now in state custody. There is no cost and the state pays for the adoption. Or at least become a foster parent to the children who were not aborted. We keep pushing to stop abortions but those same people are not adopting or fostering the children who were not aborted. When you send that red letter to the president, just keep in mind of all the children who were not aborted and are waiting to have a parent adopt them or be a foster parent to them. I do not agree with abortion but you can't assume that all of these un-aborted babies will be adopted. Even if they are, there are thousands of older children in the system that no one will adopt simply because they want a younger child. So putting these babies up for adoption wont help either.

foster parent| 3.31.09 @ 10:49PM

I agree with you, that is why i am trying to make a point that if we keep pushing to have abortions outlawed than those same people need to try and be a foster parent or adopt the other children who were not aborted.

Angela| 4.1.09 @ 5:12AM

I am a teacher. I have stories of kids in terrible families with two parents, with single parents, with multiple parents due to divorce and remarriage, in foster care, etc. Yes, there are too many children in the awful situations. I think we have created a society where life means little and the family means less. It is this atmospere that is detrimental to our children. The anything oges attitude sparked by the cultural revolution of the 60's began a slippery slope that will be tough to reverse. We need to protect the family, get back to church and synogogue where families and children can find support, and support life - of the unborn, of the disabled, of the elderly. our values have been eroding - perhaps past the point of reversal.

Rosie| 4.1.09 @ 2:01PM

Abortion is awful. I sent 50 red envelopes to the President. God's heart is burdened by all the abortions going on....

R & A| 4.3.09 @ 2:04PM

If it were not for our birth mom's choosing life rather than abortion, we would not have our 2 beautiful children.
Birth moms who choose birth over abortion whether they keep their baby or allow for it to be adopted are stronger, more responsible and heaven worthy than our president and his followers will ever be.

TC| 4.4.09 @ 3:30PM

Plain and simple...Abortion is a product of sexual lust. The baby(fetus) always pays the ultimate price.

R Burnett| 4.5.09 @ 2:02AM

The claim was made by Christ Otto's organization and by WorldNetDaily that, to quote Drew Zahn, WNDs so-called journalist covering the story, that over one million red envelopes had arrived at the White HOuse mail room. This assertion or reportage was made on WNDs March 30 posting, a full day ahead of the actual mailing.
And since that story, no further word has appeared at either Otto'sd site or at WND as to what actually happened.
So, partisans, fans and other anti- abortion activists, how many enevelopes did get to the White House mail room? over a million? over 500,000? over 100,000? or would you believe a la Maxwell Smart only a couple of envelopes with postage due?
But nooo--we all have to go off on another lark with some person (doesn't the name Christ Otto make you wince?) who is probably pulling some publicity stunt at the expense of the pro-life movement. As a pro-lifer, I am ashamed to be associated with people who, even thought they be following Scripture and the Church in its teaching on abortion, ally themselves with something like this--recall that the Apostle Paul had to exorcise the demon that inhabited a woman who followed Paul about, claiming loudly that he was one of Christ's disciples. Not all of those who seem to be allied with us in the fight against abortion are our allies or friends. This red envelope stunt debases the fight against abortion.

L Silarski| 4.8.09 @ 11:37AM

Christ Otto, his real name (add your wince here and blame his mother and maternal grandfather) does NOT have an organization. In addition, the envelopes have been coming to the White House well before March 31 and will probably continue to do so. The exact number of envelopes may never be known but the estimate comes from a WH mail room worker who has held this job for 35 years. In addition, there are several websites, one of which has been asking people to submit the number of envelopes sent. But the number is not the point, the point is to get the President's attention and to galvanize the pro-life movement in a new way and with PRAYER. In this regard it has been a huge success given the thousands of emails to the positive that Christ has received. Christ has now moved on to other projects but remains a staunch pro-life advocate as he has been for the past 2o or more years.
