As somebody might say, a Senate vote is a *bleeping* valuable thing.

Via Jenifer Rubin, I see that Greg Sargent is reporting that "Senior officials with the powerful AFL-CIO have privately assured GOP Senator Arlen Specter that they’ll throw their full support behind him in the 2010 Senate race if he votes for the Employee Free Choice Act." How will Specter stave off his GOP primary challengers if it turns out that he went against his party on controversial and economically damaging legislation to get money from big labor?

This is getting juicy. I double-dog dare Specter to take the AFL-CIO's offer. I live across the counry, and I will work to defeat him!

They have to buy his vote? I thought he was a dimocrat -- their votes are not for sale at any price. He's the cross-over champ. Wasn't he one of the spearheads for BHO's latest money giveaway.

Senator Specter: please take the bait. Also, please get the (R) behind your name removed.

I'd like to thank the AFL-CIO for this brilliant move.

They have probably guaranteed that Specter will not support card-check, lest it come up in his next primary fight, which incidentally is next year.

1) ConservativeWanderer has it right - - - letting that become public makes it very difficult for Specter to go with them.

2) Specter would have to be a fool (I know, I know) to believe they'll protect him - - - if they see his seat as #60 for cloture, they'd abandon him.

Who ratted Specter out?

Specter is quite a survivor but I suspect he'd finally get primaried if he backed EFCA.
