There is no justice in the universe, and perhaps even less in the
blogosphere. One of my duties during the Conservative Political
Action Conference was to act as chaperone/tour guide to a former
intern attending her first CPAC. An associate editor for
a lifestyle magazine, she found herself being asked
repeatedly, "Do you have a blog?"
So a week ago, she decided to start one, after
soliciting advice from her "Illustrious Mentor" on installing
SiteMeter, etc. And today, she got her first
Instalanche -- blogger slang for being linked by
Professor Glenn Reynolds a/k/a "Instapundit."
As I explained to her, it took Jammie Wearing Fool
six months of blogging before he got his first 'Lanche. Some guys
blog for years and never get a 'Lanche. Maybe I should get a new
business card printed: "Illustrious Mentor."
great points.
God, we could write tomes about the chattering classes; you know,
if computers had never been invented we could still live good
lives, life (or existence) doesn't really get better, just
different.
Tell you the truth, I wish I'd ignored computers as a few
Gumplican friends of mine did.
They are busy happy-go-lucky people who ignore the cyberworld
altogether-- yes there ARE such people still.
So ignorance isn't necessarily all that bad; not bliss, but not
as bad as one might think it is.

PS
Naturally the web is very important for scientific research, and
all that blather.
However if I were to do my life over (and who wouldn't?) I'd buy
a whole ton, literally, of good books and spend the rest of
worldly life reading and doing, instead of the internet
addiction.
Gump was a decent guy, he was v. simple, but his fishing boat was
as good as any number of them thar e-lectronic gizmos..

It was nice bumping into you at CPAC in the Diamond Ballroom,
sir. I hope you recognized me.
