WASHINGTON -- The White House's nominee for director of the
Central Intelligence Agency, Leon Panetta, has earned more than
$700,000 in speaking and consulting fees since the beginning of
2008, with some of the payments coming from troubled banks and
an investment firm that owns companies that do business with
federal national security agencies.
I found this part particularly noteworthy:
Mr. Panetta also received a $28,000 honorarium from the Carlyle
Group, which owns a number of companies that do business with
the national-security agencies of the U.S. government.
Remember that making hay of the Bush family's ties to the Carlyle
Group was popular in far left conspiracy circles, and figured
prominently in Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I have been reading
about this and am glad to see someone else is concerned.

Panetta (like Bill Clinton) also has a "foundation". Shouldn't it
be a requirement to disclose the names of the donors to a
foundation run by the head of the CIA?
