Everyone is now focused on the new Obama administration, but
it's worth remembering that Barack Obama's presidential campaign
kicked off two years ago in January 2007. Building a
successful campaign takes long months of preparation and any hope
for a Republican resurgence in the 2010 mid-terms requires that
prospective candidates begin organizing now.
One such candidate is Lt. Col. Allen
West, who challenged Democrat Rep. Ron Klein last year in
Florida's 22nd District. With very little support from the
national GOP infrastructure, and operating at a huge
financial disadvantage, West nevertheless made a respectable
showing, getting
45% of the vote in a district long represented by Republican
Clay Shaw.
West is ready to launch his
2010 campaign, with a conference call Saturday and a
Feb. 7 rally in Boca Raton and, in an e-mail to supporters, West
says, "One of the keys to victory is getting his message out as
early as possible and he needs your support."
