Ruining the Moment

The recording of the first black president taking the oath of office is of great historic significance, something that could be played repeatedly. But will anyone want to play it the way John Roberts and Barack Obama both  flubbed their lines?

the first black prez.

maybe the last, too.

Jeremiah| 1.20.09 @ 9:37PM

Alan Brooks --

You are a cheap, demented, witless, racist fool. You are a lozel, a cad, and a weasel, and a bore.

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 9:48PM

So touchy, Jeremiah. No way you could have survived the abuse we've withstood the last eight years. "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen."

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 9:52PM

What's so interesting is that Alan is a recovering liberal.

Alan Brooks| 1.20.09 @ 9:52PM

oh, i like Obama. its just that some of his people might bring him down.
you know, like Nixon's people did to Dickie. lot of lozels, cads, weasels, bores in govt. never know what they'll do. what sort of pasts they had. what sort of baggage they carry with them into their offices.
and Lady sez 'our souls are broken'.
no frikin kiddin!
when exposed to Chicago politics for years, one would know.

anyway, don't care what you say unless you spell the name wrong. you dont realize it, but you play right into my hands.

Alan Brooks| 1.20.09 @ 9:57PM

poor poor Jerry, he walks right into the bait.

but his liberal guilt has to be dumped on SOMEBODY.

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 9:59PM

That's losel. Hey, Alan, it's true, when you poke a liberal the snide arrogance oozes out. They just can't help themselves. It's funny to watch.

mary| 1.20.09 @ 10:07PM

Mr. Obama and his 57 states. Without the teleprompter, he's an empty suit. It's sad that this man will make such a mess as Carter did. Regan had to clean up Carter's mess just as a conservative republican elected in 4 years from now to clean up Obama's. Obama will be a one term president. I live in Illinois. Obama is cook county, period. God help us.

Alan Brooks| 1.20.09 @ 10:29PM

O. will be reelected, unless some crooks bring him down.
when i wrote (to bait Jer) that O. might be last black prez, i meant after eight years.

then Ahnold reigns from 2017-- 2024.

Ran| 1.20.09 @ 10:34PM

Mr. Antle,
I rather think the flubbing isn't important. They were both nervous, and for all the right reasons. The effect was human and appealing rather than spoiling.

Think back to Neil Armstrong's "That's one small step for [a!] man, one giant leap for mankind." In his nervous way, Armstrong too added a human flaw to a momentous occasion that in no way detracts.

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 10:41PM

Crooks or terroism. What's with Ahnold? Because he's part of the Kennedy family? Cali is too screwed up--makes him look very bad. I do understand Mr. Antle's point, even Fox glossed over the words of the Oath to omit the flubs--didn't look great. Actually, I feel bad about that because of its historical significance.

Crusader| 1.20.09 @ 10:43PM

Not one mention today of the WHITE women who actually, you know, RAISED the obamanation, good ol' mom and grandma. Where was dad again?

Obama is not the first black president or the first AA president. He's the first mulatto president. Why do mulattos consistently deny their whiteness?

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 10:47PM

Because they are ashamed of it.

Alan Brooks| 1.20.09 @ 10:52PM

actually if--if of course-- a terrorist attack isn't too big it might get him reelected.
Ahnold is a joke. i wrote a piece once about Ahnold.
but now the article is not In anymore. not with it.
things change so fast. here today gone tomorrow.
you're right, Ahnold is yesterday's paper.

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 10:56PM

People are suspicious about the liberals' ability to keep the country safe. If we get hit I think most would vote repub. The huge I Told You So!

Crusader| 1.20.09 @ 11:01PM

Alan, what's going to bring this guy down? Hmmmm, oh I know! Maybe if the guy he chose to run the Treasury didn't pay his taxes or something, that would probably do it. Oooops, nope, guess not.

NOTHING is going to bring this guy down! He has the MSM in his back pocket! EVERYTHING he does will be smoothed over by the MSM to the idiot sheeple masses. You wait. If anything DOES get the sheeple baying a little, all the MSM has to do is say "Bush!" and it will be back to grazing and Obama-worship.

I'm waiting for the NYT editorials to tell us how out of vogue the 22nd Amendment is, or that this "crisis" calls for a new referendum on the 22nd, because it takes more than just a mere 8 years to get all the problems fixed (oceans only rise so much a year you know).

Ran| 1.20.09 @ 11:03PM

Wasn't the only flub, by the way. DiFi's delivery sounded a lot like "oaf of office" to my tin ear. [Hey Di, was that a Freudian slip you exposed?]

Crusader| 1.20.09 @ 11:07PM

Ruth, I just don't have any faith in the sheeple anymore. When we get hit, the MSM will somehow pin it on Bush, or Rush, and the sheeple will baaah their agreement and that's that.

The obamabot sheeple are mind-numbed, unthinking, and do not possess a vision past the current patch of grass in which they are grazing. All the MSM has to do is lead them to a new, better patch of grass, tell them obama grew it just for them, (or better yet took it from a richer sheeple to give to them) and they will be happy. All will be forgotten/forgiven. Hell, less than 8 years ago islam attacked us on our own soil and we've just elected a Kenyan-born muslim to be president. Sorry if I don't have any faith left in my fellow "Americans."

ksnit| 1.20.09 @ 11:08PM

Ruining the moment? After Rev. Lowery's prayer that "white will embrace what is right," I think the moment had already been ruined.

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 11:08PM

I think a terroist attack is the only event the liberals couldn't BS their way through. Kind of hard to blame that on Boooosch.

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 11:12PM

You're not alone, Crusader. However, days like 9/11 have a way of crystallizing priorities in peoples' minds.

jaywhite| 1.20.09 @ 11:30PM

There's quite a cult of personality developing. I'll bet Stalin ,if alive, would be envious. However, when the real game begins, Obama will show how incompetent he is. Of course, the NYT will have orgasms over anything Obama does (while they're still in business).

Ran| 1.20.09 @ 11:37PM

ruth...
I honestly feel as if we've just been hit again. Something foul has happened, and it's just dead-time until the butcher's bill arrives. Yeah, it's time to prioritize.

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 11:54PM

Yeah, good way to put it, "Dead time until the Butcher's bill arrives." How long do we have until the bill arrives? I felt ill when I saw Bush leave in the chopper---don't go!. It's surreal.

Real American| 1.21.09 @ 12:57AM

Conservatives should show President Hussein exactly the same deference and respect that liberals showed President Chimpy McBushitler. So when's the Obama assassination movie coming out anyway?

Kitty| 1.21.09 @ 6:32AM

A Manhattan lit agent who blogs said in her post yesterday that we should wait at least 100 days until we nitpik poor BO. This after she remarked how she was glad to see President Bush get on that helicopter and go.

So I commented that "Obama should be treated the same way President Bush was."

She has yet to post my comment.

Jeremiah| 1.21.09 @ 8:07AM

Alan Brooks, I apologize, I'm sorry, I felt so frustrated after that botched inauguration. Besides you guys have real jobs and responsibilities, I have none because I'm a part time teacher and nobody gives me no respect. Please pray for me. Ain't no sunshine when you're a dumb, gay, liberal, tax loving teacher of social sciences.
Hi Ruth!

Alice Moore| 1.21.09 @ 8:14AM

Crusader, one thing was proven by Bill Clinton; that is, enough of the American people can be fooled ALL of the time. There was enough Bread and Circuses to be provided in that era. This is an advantage Obama may not have today.

Remember Nicaragua in 1989. Violetta Chamorro won handily against Daniel Ortega. He not only had a gun to the head of the local press, fashionable opinion the world over was pulling for Ortega. There was a large, ignorant peasantry that was said to be easy to lead by a strong man. All was in vain.

Perhaps, in 11/2012 there will be an aging, Botoxed, Hollywood bimbo sadly sitting in a lobby when she finds out her Messiah has lost. Then like PJ O'Rourke in 1989, we can really be happy.

WendyG| 1.21.09 @ 8:18AM

A very good thing IMO. Enough with the notion that Obama is more than human. He flubs things, just like everyone else.

Interloper| 1.21.09 @ 11:45AM

President Obama did not flub his lines. The chief justice, a white man did. I am not surprised to see someone who is an associate of white supremacists, like James Antle, trying to diminish the president already.

James, this stuff may sell with Steve Sailer's following, but anyone without a race problem can see right through you.

Truth to Power| 1.21.09 @ 12:55PM

The interloper jumped right to race. Mr. Antle just pointed out that the flubs (made by a couple of Harvard grads) will make the recording of this historical event less palatable. Who could argue and who has a race problem? Bigots like the interloper always expose themselves.

JoshFranklin| 1.21.09 @ 1:54PM

Aye aye aye. Brace yourselves for at least four years of being labeled a racist for any and all assessments of our Dear Leader.

ruth| 1.21.09 @ 2:47PM

Obama is a white man, too. He just has a great tan.
