Re: Sour Note

Via Ken Shepherd at Newsbusters, here is video of the "hey, hey, good-bye" send-off for President Bush:

This is, of course, perfectly consistent with the "Hail, to the Thief" protesters who marred Bush's 2000 inaugural, as well as the obscenity-spewing protesters at Bush's 2005 inaugural. Meanwhile, our old friend Jeremy Lott reflects on the universalization of Bush hatred.

Come on, Bob, Interloper, Jeremiah, where are your scolding lectures on the lack of decorum, the uncivil behavior of liberals? Yeah, just what I thought--hypocrites.

LOL| 1.20.09 @ 6:03PM

It was juvenile and uncalled for. No doubt. But the man is reviled by 70-odd percent of the country. The worst he gets is a childish song? In the middle of a dignified and orderly transition of power, as Red State so pompously noted to cover the epic fail of the GOP (my party, BTW), if the worst that happens to a hugely unpopular president is that people sing a naughty song: toughen up.
Look at it this way: He was subject to enhanced farewell techniques.

Kat | 1.20.09 @ 6:31PM

LOL, you liberals find an excuse for everything. Your problem is that you don't value individual responsibility. Herd mentality.

Alan Brooks| 1.20.09 @ 6:32PM

not Bush's fault the war derailed his presidency.

notice how LBJ got a pass for 'nam.

Interested Conservative| 1.20.09 @ 6:38PM

LOL - A bit overstating and projecting there. I expect history will treat W very kindly, and a year or two from now his "approval" ratings, or memories, or whatever will probably be 50/50ish. That overlooks some of the MSM's efforts to keep blaming him, but it will happen.

Remember the general rule that 1/3 support it, a 1/3 oppose it, and 1/3 don't pay much attention or care. It held for the revolution, the civil war, and more lately Truman and LBJ. Buchanan, Hoover and Carter are the noted exceptions.

5 years on, W's ratings stay below 50 only as long as marxists control the polled historian community or the pollsters.

Alan Brooks| 1.20.09 @ 6:48PM

LBJ used to crawl in bed with his secretaries and say "this is YORE president"

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 7:04PM

Alan, read Jeremy Lott's excellent (1/20) column on Bush over at the AS website. This explains what I was trying to say the other day.

Interloper| 1.20.09 @ 7:50PM

ROFL! "Na, na, na, na, hey, hey, hey, good-bye!' is both an accurate analysis and just the right degree of snark. There's nothing hateful about it, just an acknowledgment that George W. Bush is a failure and we are glad to see him go. Nearly 70 percent of the American public believe that. Half believe Al Gore would have been a better president.

Happy Inauguration Day!

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 7:59PM

I officially declare Obama's presidency a success. We haven't been hit by terroists since he was sworn in.

mary| 1.20.09 @ 9:58PM

Boy am I going to miss President Bush. Even though I disagreed with him on many domestic issues, he kept us safe for eight years. Don't think Obama is going to keep us safe. God help us.
God Bless you President Bush. I will deeply miss you.

Alan Brooks| 1.20.09 @ 10:16PM

still think the war derailed Dubya's presidency. until a time machine for the history dept at Stanford is invented, will stick to that autopsy report.

Alan Brooks| 1.20.09 @ 10:21PM

and the Great Society makes leftist professors like LBJ. many are willing to overlook 'nam

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 10:24PM

I don't know, Alan. I think our national crisis brought out the best in him. I'm just sure thankful to God that Al (internet) Gore wasn't president on 9/11, our country would be a smoking ruin by now.

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 10:25PM

Why did you mention Stanford?

Alan Brooks| 1.20.09 @ 10:34PM

oh just being (lib) cute. you know, stanford physics is well known, like MIT.

but, please, LBJ made a royal botch of 'nam.

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 10:46PM

I have ties to Stanford. When I think of physics out here I think of Caltech. LBJ and 'nam--well known disaster.

Alan Brooks| 1.20.09 @ 11:01PM

i told a professor that LBJ was a bad prez, and he replied "he worked very hard for America".
then i said,
"Lenin worked very hard for Russia".
He smiled and said,
"you're right".
Professors don't always know even simple things.

ruth| 1.20.09 @ 11:16PM

Alan, if you were speaking to a professor you might as well have been speaking to Lenin. Only the right is evil. Too much individualism you know.

jay white| 1.21.09 @ 12:07AM

Mary;
You hit the nail on the head. Since 9/11 which was facilitated by the last libtard administration, there hasn't been a terrorist attack on US soil. I'm sure Al Qaeda are really afraid of "The One". So are the Russians. The day after the One was elected the Russians threatened to vaporize Poland. Maybe Katie Couric or Keith Obermann could explain to Vlad Putin, that BO is "the one we've been waiting for"

GeneCar| 1.21.09 @ 8:12AM

It is not sufficient to regret that Bush left office with low ratings. We must carefully analyse the reasons; those reasons are going to be vastly different among the Republican and conservative base than among democrats and the left generally. These latter hated Bush even before he was elected (faith and values probably palying a large part). In my analysis, the loss of confidence among conservatives was due to the creation of new entitlements in heathcare, the expansion of federal gov role in education, the failure of Bush to exercise his veto power on congressional budgets, the attempt to appoint Harriet Meirs and other anti-conservative actions.
