The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza has
floated a possible compromise between Harry Reid and Roland
Burris I hadn't heard: Allow Burris to serve as a shadow senator.
For the remaining two years of Obama's term, Burris could serve
on comittees, attend hearings, walk around on the Senate floor,
and maybe even introduce legislation. But he'd have no vote.
I have to say it sounds like a nonstarter to me. Nonvoting
"shadow" status isn't good enough for many residents of
Washington, D.C. Why would it be acceptable to people who live in
an actual state?
