Doug, that was basically my point two weeks ago in describing Blagojevich as "Obama's Bert Lance." That whiff of old Chicago politics, tainting Obama's too-perfect image, pushing a wedge between Obama and his natural base, the elite media -- it very much recalls how the Lance scandal brought an early end to Jimmy Carter's honeymoon.

RS, buried in all the news of the press conference yesterday, was this juicy tidbit: Roland Burris admitted that his firm got significant minority business set-asides (racial quotas), in exchange for contributions to Blago.

Of course, the MSM doesn't want to pursue that "politically incorrect" angle. But we've got the details over at Libertarian Republican blog.

The Conservative media needs to investigate this!

There is an interesting comparison to be drawn between Guantanamo and the Governor of Illinois: according to Democrats ( Obama, Reid, et al) the Al Queda suspects at Guantanamo deserve more due process and benefit of the doubt than Blago. Why are the Democrats so dead set on convicting and sentencing Blago right now?

George Roach: I live in Chicago. This govt has been the absolute worst.

He has horrible policies, he wont even go to the IL Capital.. he runs the State from his Chicago office. He is an arrogant arse.

No one doubts he's corrupt. He has to go and he has to go now.

This appointment is the ultimate F.You to the poeple of this state. I'm so fed up with this crap.

VinceP1974: All true I suspect, but why should that lead to us commoners calling for Blago's departure. Surely his replacement will not be better, will he or she?

Judy Beumler| 12.31.08 @ 6:17PM

VinceP1974, this may all be true and I hope you ARE tired of the happy baloney you live in...but the good people of Chicago (and I use the term loosely) won't vote for a Republican, will they????

When Blago was arrested the General Assembly said they would call for a special election so that the people could choose the replacement sinceu the process is now fatally corrupted.

SInce the Democrats controls the Legislature, Harry Reid must have called them and so then they changed thiermind and said the Lt Gov will appoint when Blago is kicked out of office and told Blago not to dare appoint someone.. and he did.

Judy: There are no Republicans of any note in CHicago
