"It's kind of like the Tower of Babel. At a certain point in
time, God smites hubris. You knew that right around the time
people started saying there's going to be a permanent Republican
majority-that God kinda goes, No, I really don't think
so."

Vanity Fair

I bet David is a true believer in the permanent Democratic majority though.
ruth| 12.30.08 @ 11:50PM
Mr. Kuo, better watch your mouth. Obama's Tower of Babel is already rearing its ugly Blagojevich head, and The One hasn't even been inaugurated yet.
Groucho| 12.31.08 @ 12:31AM
The plan for Republican resurgence goes like this:
1. Repeal the 22nd amendment so that George W. Bush can run again in '12.
2. Persuade Sarah Palin to run as his running mate. A Bush / Palin ticket will combine the two intellectual power houses of the conservative movement into one "dream team."
3. Hire Karl Rove as top political strategist and advisor, combining the administration of the government with campaigning for office.
4. Hire only those who oppose the government to run government agencies to insure competence, earnestness, and success.
5. Just let Palin and Bush sit down somewhere and do what they do best: think and generate new ideas. These two are a couple of geniuses, and if we just let them think, and think, and think, they'll be able to come up with the new ideas we need.
ruth| 12.31.08 @ 12:57AM
I don't know, Groucho, the geniuses on your side look like the clowns right now, Blago and all. Know what I'm sayin'?

Anyone who thinks that the Democrats are currently the underdogs is so out of touch he or she needs to institutionalized for personal safety.
Even a brief look at national political news shows the media having an all-out roast of the GOP's meltdown ridden race for RNC leader. Currently, Chip Saltsman's racist rambling and Katon Dawson's effort to buy support are the focus. These Southern good ol' boys are the gift that keeps giving.

Uh.. this is the default view the media always have of the GOP.
I think the Democrats are going to be in for the shock of their lives.
I think they have misread the discontent in this country.
Everyone is agitated that things aren't going right... well I propose that no matter who the President is, the world is heading to the crapper.. and has been heading to the crapper and there isn't much the USA can do to stem back all of these forces.
Meanwhile, Washintong's total mismanagement of the Federal Budget has now finally reached critical mass.
Everyone knows the Govt is bankrupt.
Every Democrat "solution" involves even more massive debt spending.
There is nothing the Democrats have to offer that doesn't involve destroying the finances of this country.
You guys are boxed into a corner and have no way out.
Michael Dooley| 12.31.08 @ 9:11AM
The there one little fact that should humble some and uplift others as Obama becomes President Obama: Obama is currenly enjoying the most popularity he will ever...ever have again.
So goes the way of the world.

Pu-leeze. Vanity Fair is Bush Derangement Syndrome Central. They are addicted to Bush bashing. How will they live, now that Bush is going???? I am willing to look at what worked and what didn't about Bush's administration, but not via Vanity Fair.
And there has never been a more arrogant gang than Obama and his handmaidens, the MSM.
Bob| 12.31.08 @ 1:15PM
Wendy, Fox News is the number one cable news channel and O'Reilly, Hannity, and Rush are the most listened to media people. The newspapers like the NYT and LAT and Washington Post are dying. The reality is that the MSM is no longer just liberal, it is a mixture of both. Blaming everything on the MSM no longer makes any sense.
WendyG| 12.31.08 @ 2:15PM
>>>> The newspapers like the NYT and LAT and Washington Post are dying.
True enough Bob. But many people still get their news at breakfast, reading the NYT, or articles generated by the Times in local papers.
If we learned anything this election cycle, it's that if the MSM anoints you you can do no wrong (Obama) - and if they try to destroy you, you are cooked (McCain-Palin.)
One only need to look at how Bush was derided for his dedication to working out, while Obama is being drooled and fawned over for the same habit. These characterizations stick, especially with people who are not political junkies, as we are. They get their news on the run.
Bob| 12.31.08 @ 2:50PM
Actually, Wendy, most people get their news now from the internet -- especially the young voters who are now emerging. Only a very small group of older people read the paper on a daily basis anymore.
Again, Fox News, Rush, O'Reilly, Hannity, etc., ARE part of the MSM now. I saw just as much Obama bashing as Palin bashing depending on what station I was watching. Almost all drive time radio bashed Obama.
Where did you see that Bush was derided for working out? Didn't you see the pictures of Obama riding a bicycle and looking like a nerd? I also never saw a picture of Bush with his shirt off -- it wouldn't have made a difference since he was not my type.
Wendy, you need to stop just listening to Rush and Fox News, and spend time with each of them. There is not as much bias as people would have you believe.
ruth| 12.31.08 @ 4:22PM
Admit it, Bob, Obama is definitely your type. Liberals like you and the Lame Street Media worship at his altar. Just stop: Reading the (dead) NYT, Washington Post, LA Times, Time Mag., Newsweak, Huff/Post, DU, and The Daily Kos, watching CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC, and PBS, and listening to Air America and you'd realize that you'd have to be brain-dead not to admit that LIBERAL BIAS is blatant throughout our Media. Your statements are ridiculous and outright lies.
