I don't know if you're sick of hearing about this, but I'm embarrased to say my hometown Senator is now down by 265 votes as of the Strib, 1:30 EST with 1215 ballots reviewed.
However, it has inspired local political reporters/bloggers to write this little diddy:
How the Court Stole Christmas
With apologies to Dr. Seuss:
All the Whos down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot,
But the Court in St. Paul very clearly did not."We've got to stop Christmas from coming somehow,"
Said the Court as it ruled that the Whos must be fooled. Then the justices had an awful idea,
A scary and maybe unlawful idea."Let's make them keep working and fighting all season,
"Let's just keep them squabbling ‘till they lose touch with reason!''And the thought gave the Court a warm lawyerly feeling,
While reporters in Whoville just about hit the ceiling...
Oy. Let's hope it stays in rhyme only, though I have a feeling much of this is already coming to pass.

Once again it is proved that democruds have no values. Steal, cheat, and betray, it makes no difference as long as they can deploy their radical socialist communistic traderistic agenda.

John McLame ought to be happy since he was always more concerned with the comedy of the senate than the good of the country.

Oh wait, that was comity, not comedy. This is a tragedy.

George, this is not either Democrat or Republican. They both play hardball with lawyers in close elections. Neither party has values when it comes to elections. If you believe they do, then you are fooling yourself.
Minnesota has one of the cleanest election histories of any state. A recount is not stealing. Besides, they have a Republican governor so you can't accuse them of much bias.
This is America, where litigation is the way the game is played.... by everyone....

Why don't we just go back through every election in this country for the past 30 years and recount the votes ? Sure, every vote should be counted - but in a reasonable amount of time. The fact is that voters and voting systems are not perfect and we have to accept that; and the results based on mathematical odds will even out over time between the different parties. For the first 3/4 of the last century, we had a nation of grown-ups who accepted that fact and didn't throw temper tantrums over every single vote. We had a nation of grown-up candidates who accepted defeat even though they knew that there are no pefect voting systems. Now we have a nation of children who turn every election into a joke - elections which litterally drag on for years with the whole voting process being called into question. Grow up America...., please, pretty please ?

Dave,
The reason for not easily accepting a close election is money. People invest far more today to get elected than 30 years ago. Their supporters expect to get something back for their "investment". With all of that money at risk, every close election will be litigated. It's not the counting that is the problem, it is the litigation. If the decision is made now, after the recount but before litigation, Franken wins. Is that OK with you?
