Eliot Spitzer Resurfaces

You know what's good? When you see someone rehabilitated and ready to come back into his former seat of prominence. You know what's bad? Being haunted by earlier sins.

Which is why I'm pleased to share that Eliot Spitzer, apparently, will be speaking at an IntelligenceSquared debate on whether we should blame Washington for the economic crisis. (I'll let you guess which side he's on.)

And I'm also sorry to note the title of the debate that follows his: "It's Wrong To Pay For Sex."

Oh fate can be a harsh overzealous prosecutor!

How now, Mr. Freire, did you actually think Eliot was going to spend the rest of his days quietly working for a charity, a la John Profumo?

This is the post-Clinton era, shamelessness wins. Just act like you did nothing wrong and gradually the world will fall into line.

In days gone by, disgraced pols led low-profile lives, or turned to doing good works in order to atone (Chuck Colson.)

Now they get radio shows and columns at Huff Post, and play the victim.
