Corruption by the Numbers

According to this put out last year (revived by Politico), Louisiana is the most corrupt state in the nation.   Minnesota is ranked 33 (Hmm. Wonder of that will change?) and Illinois is number 6.

Is your state on the list?

We all know why this fairly aged report showed up in some of the major media in the past few days. Illinois isn't really as bad as those red southern states, is it?

Using a per capita metric for federal corruption convictions of public officials is flawed, as it assumes that the number of public officials per capita is the same for all states. Statistics aside, the variable is only those who get caught and convicted. Spitzer, and possibly Blago if he flips for immunity, are freebies by this measure.

Both MI, where I grew up, and NM, where I live now are not on what appears to be a Federal list, but they are incredibly corrupt at the state level.
