For Republicans, that is. Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy prevailed in a close race for a House seat in Ohio's suburban Franklin County.

There's a brighter silver lining to this cloud than most of the "wait til '10" races. I used to live in the district, and it's very available to recapture. As a matter of fact, the GOP starts off with a nice set of plusses for the house - doubt they will regain it, but a +10-20 gain is very likely.

Idaho, Alaska, two or three in Ohio, are all very obvious. An interesting challenge will be if Rep. Cao decides to fight on and can develop a base. If so, a Pelosi-led blue-dog controlled house is almost certain.

Unless Pres. Obama accomplishes far more than his experience (as opposed to the prelude of 4 years of hope) indicates, the GOP will hit bottom in the next few weeks, long before the economy does.
