Palin for Chambliss

Obama's opting out of looking too partisan, what with his cabinet picks earning him the title of "centrist." Hence he's not headed to Georgia himself, instead ushering his top political advisers to help get Jim Martin elected over Saxby Chambliss.

On the other hand, Sarah Palin is leveraging her own amount of political momentum. This photo from sometime-AmSpec reader Chris Cree shows that she's not going to disappear from the national stage even if flights from Alaska tend to be kind of long.

Thanks for the pic, Chris.

You are most welcome for the photo. I was pretty far back and it's a dinky camera.

Usually runoff elections have pitiful turnout here in Georgia so we'll have to see how many actually show up tomorrow. Having Sarah Palin come to town was good to highlight the need for conservative folks here to go vote tomorrow.

I listened to her speech. It was very moderate and almost libertarian in nature. She didn't speak at all about so-con issues except one small oblique mention without talking about the courts, gay marriage or abortion. Some of it was obviously written for her as she could not properly pronounce a few of the words, but she seemed to ad lib as well. All in all, it was a pretty good speech and as some of you know, I am a strong Palin detractor.

This center right positioning will do her well if she wants to continue to be a factor in national politics. It might upset some hard right conservatives. However, if she does run on her own merit, she will have to debate several times and also be able to face the Gibson's and Couric's more successfully.

She is obviously not as well spoken or knowledgeable as a Romney or Jindal, but she is clearly more charismatic than those two. The big issue will then not be to excite the base, but to turn the 2/3rds of the independents who thought she was unqualified to change their minds.

Bob, a moment of self disclosure?

Chris, thank you for sharing the photo. Nice to see Gov. Palin out there pushing for Saxby. Let's hope we get a good outcome.

Bob's starting to come around!

How can her speech be "very moderate and almost libertarian?" Bob, do you believe that moderation is closer on the political spectrum to libertarianism than conservatism is? There is no close link between moderates and libertarians, so your description of her speech is puzzling.

Bob: "Some of it was obviously written for her as she could not properly pronounce a few of the words, but she seemed to ad lib as well. All in all, it was a pretty good speech and as some of you know, I am a strong Palin detractor. "

Oh, I could think of a few other descriptives other than "strong Palin detractor" that would more accurately apply to you.

Doug N -- if you read my statement carefully, I am not comparing moderation with libertarianism. I am saying that she had elements of both in her speech. I consider that a positive and it is much closer to my position. This is quite an improvement over her speeches in the campaign. Few people are moderates or libertarians on all issues. This was not the speech I expected from a so-con.

However, I would still like to know that she has learned something about the Constitution, the Supreme Court, the economy and how national government works. There is no evidence in any of her interviews that she is knowledgeable.
