So the AP is now reporting. If these numbers hold, the Democrats will reach 58 Senate seats. This is the second seat the Democrats secured today -- the first by not pushing Joe Lieberman out of the Democratic caucus, the second through the apparent election of Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich.

With the RINOs, headed by Senator Reach-Across-The-Aisle McCain, does it really matter?

A mayor from Alaska in the U.S. Senate? Has anybody asked him about the "Bush doctrine"? He's clearly unqualified!

RSM, another "cute" comment that belies fact. Anchorage has a population of about 280,000 people vs. Wasilla with a population of just under 10,000. Anchorage is about 40% of the total Alaska population and the mayor has much more responsibility and a larger staff. If I were you, I'd stay away from any statistical analysis. That said, perhaps if he showed up in a press conference, unlike Palin, we'd get to judge his intelligence for ourselves.

Begich is a worse criminal than even Ted Stevens. He's got some super shady land deals in his past. In fact, he's under investigation on some of them right now.
But worse, he's the ultimate Nanny-stater. This is the one man who single-handidly led the effort against repeal of the Anchorage smoking ban on bars and bingo halls. The Libertarian Party collected 12,000 signatures to overturn the ban in 2006.
Begich raised $120,000 to defeat us. We could only muster up $1,000 for the pro-effort. Our petition drive was 100% grass roots.
So, we were outspent 120 to 1, with Begich leading the charge.
He's bad news for liberty. Even worse than the criminal pork-barreller Stevens.

And somehow I bet that the entire state of Alaska has a larger population than Anchorage, and that the governor's staff is larger than that of Anchorage.
