Beautiful Losers

I'm all for losing graciously, handling defeat with dignity, answering the president's call regardless of party, loyal opposition, serving a cause larger than oneself, etc. But am I the only one who sees this and thinks Republicans seem a little too comfortable with their new role as good losers?

I don't think House Republicans or even McCain's fellow Senators intend on becoming beautiful losers.

The only thing I would caution against is disagreeing just to disagree.

Last week Senator Kyle was warning against liberal judicial appointments. It served no purpose. Wait until an actual vacancy exists and an appointment has been made before letting loose a warning.

I think Republicans would do well to vote against what they think will be harmful, and keep extraneous comments to a minimum.

Just as President Bush has been forced to own a collapsed economy that is at least as much the Dems responsibility as his, it's important to make the Dems own the results of this election.

Republicans have an awful lot to sort through. A real schism is possible. One leading to a 3rd party that could capture 25% of the vote.

Maybe that would be a good thing. But Republicans have a rich history. It would be foolish not to take this time out, and make good use of it.

I think the author is spot on. The only quibble I have is the word beautiful to describe the losers. There was nothing beautiful about them.

One thing I think you can count on Obama and McCain working together on is the undoing of talk-radio.

It won't be by means of the Fairness Doctrine, but by getting regions to commit, via FCC rules, to "localism."

American Thinker's Jim Boulet has a good piece on this. Here's the link:

McCain has reason to go after Rush, in particular, and the like minded, in general. I don't see McCain forgetting Rush's opposition to him.

I don't listen to talk-radio much, but I know a lot of people do. For so many years now it's been the only media outlet available for like-minded conservatives to unite nationwide.

I do think Rush has gone bunker though. His interview with the Daily in England made me sad for him. It made him seem so lonely.
