As I post this, Ted Stevens has fallen slightly behind now that the early votes are being counted in Alaska's Senate race.

Why on Earth would any state have failed to complete its initial count by now?

I notice that the prevalence of early voting, and the extensive use of mail-in ballots, are both highly correlated with unprecedented delays. Is this because of some inherent inefficiency in those methods; or is it just that our electoral system hasn't fully adjusted to these abominations yet?
