My President

Let me echo Jim Geraghty:

I have seen a few critics say, "he won't be my president," but that is nonsense. He will be my president, and I will wish him well, particularly as he takes on the duty of protecting the American people in a dangerous world.

I've seen the "not my president" crap, too, including among commenters on this blog. I'm not happy with the election results, but we've been listening to this garbage from the goons at Daily Kos et al. for the past eight years, and we don't need any more of it.

Yes, he will be my President, and yours, and ours.

But we must not let a dedication to courtesy and civic virtue lead us into the usual trap...where the Democrats define same as our rolling over, and Michel-esque Republicans happily do so out of some bizarre sense of duty and twisted recognition of the Democrats' right to rule.

For instance: If I sat in the Senate, I would let Obama nominees to the executive branch sail through, so long as they were not accompanied by giant blinking "DANGER" lights (think Lani Guinier).

On the other hand, I would not reward the Democrats' disgraceful behavior these past eight years by going along with any--*any*--lifetime appointment to the Judicary that I had any discomfort with. I say, if they don't get a wholehearted stamp of approval from Federalist Society types, filibuster every last damn one of them.

The think I fear about Obama is that he's so much about the cult of personality. I daresay most of his supporters could not really tell me what policies of his they support. I fear for Israel - btw way Israel launched rockets into Gaza tonight, and I think's that their answer to the results of our election. That said, I hope for the best and will keep a good attitiude. I will not go down the Obama Derangment Syndrome path.

Sorry, but he's not my president. Mister Spread the Wealth Around-Mr. Bankrupt the Coal Industry. Mark my words, this guy will end our prosperity. And yes, I'm sick of the Republicans always "doing the right thing" and always being "above all that". The "new tone" and reaching across the aisle got us into this mess. I don't wish Obama well, nor do I wish him success.

This whole discussion is foolish. Yes, President Obama is technically our president, number 44.

Beyond that, he remains a stealth figure who carefully crafted his autobiography to show the hand he wanted while dodging the tough questions. Just how many presidents in US history have had such a cast of anti American associations? Who many presidents have given the finger to his opponents in the primary and the general election. This at a time when he had won or was winning his contests?

And, to what extent is President Obama responsible for the malignant activities of ACORN? What will be his pay back to unions, ACORN, Planned Parenthood, and the like?

Sure, he is technically our president. So what? So was President Carter.

Who will be the first to grace the Lincoln Bedroom?

1. Bill Ayers
2. Rev. Wright
3. Father Pleger
4. Tony Rezko (although he might be detained)
5. Raila Odinga

Yea, what a president.

KOS got their guy elected.

I can't imagine the wet noodles here tearing their way out of a paper bag.

just out of curiosity, claudia, what is this so-called "prosperity" of which you speak, which obama will supposedly end? is it the prosperity we bought with trillions of dollars of national debt?

just wondering.

ruth| 11.5.08 @ 3:26PM

Midge: The people in this country are very spoiled. If you don't think we are a prosperous nation you are deluded. Things could be much worse, (try miles long gas lines and 22% interest rates during Carter's years). It was also Carter's/Clinton's liberal social engineering policies that led to low-income mortgage loans through Fannie/Freddie and this sub-prime mess. At least have half a clue.
