Matthew Vadum...

...was pretty funny zinging community organizers last night on The Daily Show, but do you think anyone will get he was actually making fun of the un-compassionate conservative caricature, rather than being the caricature? In a time when "socialism" has become a racist code word, I have my doubts! Or am I failing to discern the caricature of the average dissent squashing Obama-ite?

I thought it was a put on. In fact that's how I found this blog while researching whether Vadum was real or just someone who answered a casting call for an uptight f*ck(er). I think they guy has some real comedic talent.

Matthew Vadum is:
A. A top-notch investigative reporter;
B. A tremendously witty person; and
C. A native of Canada.
All of these things are true, and if you're going to hate Matthew, "C" is the only valid reason.

So he's like John Hodgman, but "evil" instead of "tweedy"? One would believe that he was playing a stereotype for laughs had one not read any of his articles on NewsBusters or elsewhere.

Unless, of course, he's been doing it as his "shtick", as the comics say. I suppose that's real Colbert-esque "commitment to a bit", but it makes newsbusters, the CRC, et al. look rather silly for publishing him. Perhaps they're "edgier" and more self-aware than anyone outside has suspected.

Matthew Vadum is a deranged little troll.

It was The Economist’s History Book of the year, bestsellers book and as they said:

“Sobestyen’s book should become the standard work on the Revolution. Deft portraits of major characters… bring the human drama alive.”
