Infomercial Bombs

At the risk of offending Chris Matthews, whose leg was clearly feeling warmth again last night after Obama's 30-minute ad, I thought the ad stunk. It looked too staged. It felt and sounded too staged. It sounded like a cheap salesman hawking vegomatics on the Shopping Network. Promises upon promises, tear-jerking stories upon tear-jerking stories: It felt so overtly manipulative that I think it may have backfired with a lot of people. Even if it was a small net plus for Obama -- and I doubt even that -- I think the McCain campaign was probably expecting something a lot more effective than that. One other thing wrong with it was that it played into the whole Obama "cult of personality" thing that was hurting THE ONE in mid-to-late August. Look for the race to continue to tighten.

"Mr. Hillyer thinks the Obama ad stunk. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you. Mr. Hillyer would think the Second Coming stinks if Jesus didn't subscribe 100% to his philosophy."

Comparing Obama to Jesus, eh?

The obama zombie's are in a trance. This is like one of those halloween scary movies. The ad again hynotized the followers and tingled their legs. They see no wrong at all in him. Love is blinf I guess. He is full of himself. They think he is their savior. Frightening.
If he wins I will give up on believing in the fair voting. Oh by the way...I live on park bench 7 to the left of the sycamore tree. Don't forget to pick me up on Nov.4 acorn guy!

The marxist paid millions for this ad. Why didn't he spread that wealth to the more needy people in America. We could use it. He should practice what he preaches. We all know he won't. He will take from us though....

Obama had better start taking care of his own, and "spreading the wealth (his) around". He lives in a mansion. He calls himself a Christian. He has all this money to throw around, but his aunt and uncle in Boston are living in slums. His aunt has been told to keep her mouth shut until after the election! His brother in Kenya lives in abject poverty!! Why doesn't someone ask BO about this stuff?????

I use to say you couldn't pay me to watch these things, but now I think, yeah if I was paid I would watch it. But since no one is going to do that, I will rely on Rush and Quinn to splain the boring details to me. I hope they are both being paid. It sounds like Obama wants to be everyone's Daddy.

It seems that all on the hard right missed the focus of the ad. The ad was targeted towards low education voters who are persuadable. You can't analyze this as either a conservative or a liberal. These are the people who watch Oprah and the Hallmark channel. They watch Deal or No Deal. For that audience, it was superb. You all seem to be making the mistake of personally reacting to it rather than understanding the target audience. That has been the genius of the Obama campaign -- they are dispassionate about targeting just like a well run business. This is also why McCain has suffered. They target themselves rather than the voters they need.
