Re: The Sarah Party

Stacy, you couldnt’ be more right about Palin becoming the frontrunner in 2012, as I noted back in early September.

Stacy, you couldnt’ be more right about Palin becoming the frontrunner in 2012, as I noted back in early September:

But more importantly, it could restore to the GOP the principled and inspired conservatism that has been absent from the two top spots since Ronald Reagan left office in 1989. Recall the last 20 years and sigh: Bush/Quayle, Dole/Kemp, and Bush/Cheney. President George H.W. Bush squandered his inheritance and was never in the Reagan mold. Sen. Robert Dole was the “it’s his turn” establishment candidate that did not enthuse. And our current president was not the conservative that his early anointers pretended he was.

So the McCain/Palin ticket — dead even with Obama/Biden, who enjoyed no Democratic convention bump — holds the most promise in years for delivering the Right from the wilderness. It may not pay immediate dividends in a McCain presidency, but Palin could represent the beginning of a conservative restoration for a long time.

Dadgum it, guys, when is this lovefest for Palin gonna end? Talking about her in the same terms as Reagan is absurd. Reagan started working in the wilderness for conservatism in 1952. He spent 28 years earning his stripes before he became president. She may or may not be a good long-term carrier of conservative hopes and dreams, but it is WAY premature to anoint her -- especially when she is measurably a drag, so far, on the only national ticket she has ever run on.

Dang it, Quin! Why? Why do you have to be such a Gloomy Gus? We know that Governor Palin is not Reagan (nascent perhaps) but you tell me who is? We've had so little to be hopeful about for so long that it seems cruel of you to belittle our enthusiasm. We're not stupid, we just don't want to hand our country to a Marxist. I hope you're not doing this because Sarah is a woman. Before you besmirch Governor Palin answer this question, where are our male conservative leaders at this critical time? At least she's had the courage to stand up, and I will stand with her. What is my choice? Do you offer an alternative?
