John McCain isn’t the only one suffering
for his support for the $700 billion bailout. Georgia Sen.
Saxby Chambliss is
paying the price, too:
[Democrat challenger Jim] Martin’s surge in the polls coincided
with Mr. Chambliss’ support earlier this month of the Bush
administration’s $700 billion Wall Street bailout package.
“That’s when things started to fall apart for him,” said
University of Georgia political science professor Charles
Bullock.
Please note that the collapse of support for Chambliss is not
because Georgia suddenly became “progressive.” It isn’t because
his Democratic opponent is charismatic or has a brilliant
campaign strategy. It is solely because Chambliss
supported the bailout. When people try to figure out what went
wrong in 2008, they should not neglect the fact that the
big-government approach to the financial crisis was
overhwelmingly unpopular. Libertarian
populism, anyone?

I couldn't agree with you more. As a lifetime Georgian, I knew that Chambliss was doomed with Georgia's conservatives if he voted for the bailout. I sent him and Johnny Isakson both emails to that effect. Georgians have no problem replacing their Senators: nobody has been reelected to Isakson's seat since Herman Talmadge in 1974.

Chambliss also undermined the republicans by being suckered into the group of 10 on oil drilling.

Isn't Chambliss also one of the "Gang of Twenty" that, ironically enough, was undermining McVain by trying to get a compromise ultimately favorable to the commie-lib Dem agenda of limiting off-shore drilling(thereby favoring corn growers)? That could certainly be playing into his toughening fight, in a place that not long ago had no gas available in some places because of a hurricane. "BE SURE YOUR SINS WILL FIND YOU OUT!"

Live by the porking compromise - die by the porking compromise!

He actually called Rush Limbaugh when Rush mentioned him as one of the drilling compromisers, trying to mealy-mouth his way out of responsibility for his typical Senatorial wickedness, for which he is now paying...

These naughty Senators forget that they are no longer facing just the lazy liberal MSM anymore, and that some of us out here are watching, and talking about every single move that they make.

Stacy, this would be more believable if the Libertarian in the race, Alan Buckley was polling higher. But Rasmussen just released hours ago, has him at a measly 1%.
