mccain and obama were both wrong about public education needing
to have "competition" as evidenced by charter schools and
vouchers. parents and teachers choose to create charter school
not to compete with district schools, but to have more say and
input in the education of a specific group of students. charter
schools are still public school that are schools of choice.
vouchers are a very bad idea and have not been utilized
throughout the country in any consistent manner. mccain blundered
when he offered the voucher system in dc schools as an example of
progressive education fo the following reasons:
1. dc schools are notoriously bad
2. vouchers in dc schools account for VERY few students...what
about all of the other public school children?
3. vouchers privatize something that should be a civic right for
all students - not just the isolated few who are able to obtain
vouchers
