Michael Bloomberg is seeking to change New York City law to allow
him to serve a third term, citing the financial crisis. When Rudy
Giuliani tried to do this in the wake of 9/11, he was attacked as a
fascist, and this was used against him in his presidential campaign
to paint him as somebody who saw himself as dictator and had an
extreme view of executive power. Somehow, when a liberal media
darling like Bloomberg tries it, I don't think he'll get the same
reaction. Keep in mind, too, when Giuliani tried it was just a
months before the end of his term, unlike the more than a year that
Bloomberg still has, and Rudy was seeking to extend his term for an
extra few months rather than run for yet another four years.
