If there's been a theme of this convention, it's Bush=McCain.
Bill Clinton made a subtler version of this argument: McCain is "a
good man who served our country" who has been heterodox as a
senator, but "on the two great questions of this election, how to
rebuild the American Dream and how to restore America's leadership
in the world," McCain is a standard-issue Republican and he's
wrong. Though this has the effect of dilluting the message a bit,
but it has the virtue of ringing a lot truer.
